Maintenance Mechanic

Summary This position is located at Department of Veterans Affairs, Hudson Valley Health Care System Montrose Campus, Engineering Service. Duties include work involved in demolition, constructing, altering, maintaining, and repairing/replacing buildings, building structures, partitions, panels, walls, interior finishes and accessories, tool cabinets, metal framing, suspended ceilings, composite building materials and weatherproofing and installing roof. Travel may be required. Responsibilities Duties includes, but not limited to: Performs interior building maintenance, operation, repair, and construction work. Measures, cuts, constructs or repairs wood or wood substitutes, for items such as scaffolding, staging parts, panels, bins, pallets, concrete forms, dry wall, roof decking, and suspended ceilings. Measures, cuts, constructs and installs wood, brick and masonry, dry wall to extremely close tolerances where there must be an exact fit and structural soundness. Completes all trim work and is able to fabricate furniture and cabinetry. Repairs leak after ensuring that the damaged area is properly dried out and adequately prepared for the repair. Maintains, repairs, alters, and constructs masonry structures of brick, block, stone, firebrick, and similar materials. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: M-F, 8am-4:30pm. Physical Requirements: The employee works in tiring, uncomfortable end awkward positions for prolonged period of time, Frequently standing, bending, kneeling, stooping. crouching and repetitive arm and wrist movement is required. The incumbent frequently carries. lift, and handles parts and material weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently lifts heavier Items with assistance. Working Conditions The work is performed both Indoors and outdoors on level and unlevel grade, on ladders, scaffolds, roofs and a combination thereof, Employee is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, excessive heat and cold, inclement weather conditions, dust, grease, heat, fumes, and noise. Work Is performed in bad weather; In mud, snow in wet end or icy areas. Employee (s subject to cuts. burns, chemical irritations, and bruises. Employee shall follow all prescribed safety practices and must use al! personal protective gear provided Including but not limited to; hearing protection, hard hats, safety glasses/eye protection, Safety hard toed shoes, respiratory protection, fall protection, etc. Education None. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
