Human Resources Generalist (SY 26-27)

Job Title: HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST Location: Columbus, Ohio Department: Talent Department-Human Resources Job Type: Full Time Salary: $36.67 Hourly This is a non‑competitive position. Essential Duties Develops and implements plans and strategies for recruiting and retaining better qualified and more diverse applicants. Participates in discussions relative to the organization of new units and the reorganization of existing units. Discusses staffing needs with management/supervision and recommends solutions to best fit these needs. Counsels and advises management/supervision on District policies, rules, and procedures pertaining to recruitment and selection processes. Identifies any pre‑employment issues and makes recommendations as to whether or not to proceed with hiring decisions. Reviews proposed policies to assess impact on human resources programs or functions. Analyzes existing organizational and human resources issues; recommends alternative approaches and solutions for existing organizational and human resources problems. Develops, conducts, and/or coordinates training for employees; consults with administrators, managers, supervisors, and employees on training issues and needs. Implements and monitors evaluation and appraisal methods to ensure timeliness and consistency; assists with development of performance standards. Monitors personnel functions as assigned to ensure proper implementation and compliance. Reviews and assists with the modification of job classification specifications as needed; monitors and maintains authorized strength position control; writes and/or assists line personnel in writing position descriptions. Writes and/or prepares technical standards, manuals, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Writes reports and drafts correspondence. Interprets, applies, and responds to questions regarding human resources law, work rules, and labor contracts. Reviews contract language to ensure the goals of all parties are accomplished. May supervise assigned staff to include conducting performance appraisals, approving/disapproving leave requests, and/or initiating disciplinary action. Team Specific Duties Talent Acquisition In addition to the duties stated above, performs all duties relevant to the recruitment of district personnel, including: Administrators, Teachers, and Support Staff. Strategic Staffing In addition to the duties stated above, performs all duties relevant to the onboarding and offboarding processes for all district personnel. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional human resources experience in a human resources office, department, or company. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Official transcripts or degree must be provided for educational credit. Preferred Qualifications Experience in educational recruitment, particularly within a large urban school district. Familiarity with certification and licensure requirements for educational professionals. Knowledge of collective bargaining environments, including experience working with labor unions and professional associations. Knowledge, Skill, And Abilities Considerable knowledge of all aspects of human resources principles and practices; considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and guidelines governing fair employment practices; considerable knowledge of administrative practices; considerable knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; considerable knowledge of bargaining unit contracts; general knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices; general knowledge of conflict management principles; ability to use a personal computer and relevant software; ability to multi‑task and prioritize work assignments; ability to identify problems, analyze information, and recommend solutions; ability to interpret, adapt, and apply appropriate written guidelines, precedents, and standardized work practices to a variety of problematic situations; ability to work with a diverse group of employees in difficult/tense situations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Physical/Mental Demands And Work Environment Tools/Equipment Use: Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair. Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching. Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds). Environment: Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
