Startup Technician I-IV (Commercial HVAC & Mechanical Systems) Position Summary: We are seeking Startup Technicians I-IV to join our growing commercial mechanical startup and commissioning team. Whether you're beginning your career in equipment startup or are an experienced commissioning professional, we have opportunities for multiple experience levels. In this role, you'll perform startup, testing, troubleshooting, and functional verification of commercial HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and control systems. You'll work alongside project managers, controls technicians, TAB contractors, and installation teams to ensure newly installed equipment operates safely and according to manufacturer specifications before turnover to the customer. Startup technicians are responsible for identifying installation deficiencies, documenting results, and helping deliver high-quality mechanical systems on schedule. Responsibilities: Perform startup and operational testing of commercial HVAC and mechanical equipment Verify equipment installation meets engineering drawings and manufacturer requirements Review equipment submittals, wiring diagrams, sequence of operations, and project documents Inspect mechanical, electrical, piping, and controls systems before equipment energization Perform functional performance testing on newly installed systems Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, airflow, and control-related issues Document startup reports, deficiencies, corrective actions, and commissioning activities Coordinate with project managers, controls technicians, TAB contractors, and installing subcontractors Support warranty investigations and startup-related service requests Maintain accurate project documentation and startup checklists Follow OSHA safety requirements and company safety procedures Provide outstanding customer service while representing the company professionally at project sites. Startup Technician I Experience: 0-2 years Ideal for technicians entering commercial HVAC startup, installation, or commissioning. Responsibilities Assist senior technicians with startup activities Learn manufacturer startup procedures Perform basic equipment inspections Complete startup documentation with supervision Learn to identify installation deficiencies Follow all company safety procedures Qualifications Mechanical aptitude Basic HVAC or construction knowledge Ability to read simple mechanical drawings Strong willingness to learn EPA Certification preferred (or ability to obtain) Valid driver's license Startup Technician II Experience: 3-5 years Performs standard startup procedures independently with limited supervision. Additional Responsibilities Perform startup of commercial HVAC equipment independently Troubleshoot routine electrical, mechanical, and controls issues Review project drawings and startup procedures Communicate deficiencies to project teams Support warranty troubleshooting Recommend improvements to startup documentation Qualifications Commercial HVAC startup, service, or installation experience Working knowledge of: Air Handling Units (AHUs) Rooftop Units (RTUs) Split Systems Pumps Fans VFDs Chilled Water Systems DDC Controls Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and sequence of operations EPA Certification OSHA 10 preferred Startup Technician III Experience: 5-8 years Handles complex startup assignments with minimal supervision and serves as a technical resource. Additional Responsibilities Perform startup of large commercial mechanical systems Troubleshoot advanced controls and system integration issues Coordinate startup schedules with multiple trades Lead startup activities on assigned projects Mentor Startup Technicians I and II Assist commissioning agents during functional testing Support owner demonstrations and equipment turnover Qualifications Extensive commercial HVAC startup experience Strong understanding of: Boilers Cooling Towers Hydronic Systems BAS/DDC Controls VAV Systems Advanced troubleshooting skills OSHA 30 preferred Startup Technician IV Experience: 8+ years Senior technical expert responsible for leading complex startup and commissioning projects. Additional Responsibilities Lead startup and commissioning activities on large commercial projects Develop startup plans and coordinate project schedules Resolve complex mechanical, controls, and electrical issues Interface directly with owners, engineers, commissioning agents, and manufacturers Conduct owner training and final equipment turnover Mentor startup team members Improve startup processes and quality standards Support warranty investigations and root cause analysis Serve as technical leader for startup operations Qualifications Expert knowledge of commercial HVAC systems Advanced commissioning and startup experience Extensive controls and BAS knowledge Strong leadership and mentoring abilities Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously EPA Certification required OSHA 30 required or ability to obtain Preferred Experience Experience with one or more of the following: #J-18808-Ljbffr Legacy Placement Partners
