Trauma Registrar Senior - Emergency Trauma

Our 27‑bed Emergency Department is designated as a Level 4 Trauma Center. The ED can provide emergency, urgent, and non‑urgent care to patients of all ages, including medical‑surgical and sub‑specialty services. We are a primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) center and a Primary Stroke Center, and we are expanding to add treatment rooms, CT, X‑Ray, and laboratory space. Summary The Trauma Registrar Senior will provide data entry support for the Trauma Registry and assist in maintaining the CHRISTUS Health Care System’s Trauma Registry to comply with all requirements of the Department of State Health Services and the State Trauma Rules. The Registry is critical for performance improvement and research. Responsibilities Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. Provide clerical, statistical, and informational support to the Trauma Service. Maintain a database for easy retrieval of trauma statistics. Accurately identify trauma patients, abstract requisite data, and enter them into the trauma registry based on trauma inclusion criteria. Perform ICD‑10 and Abbreviated Injury Scaling (AIS) coding. Update and maintain all trauma registry records, including essential elements as defined by trauma center leadership, State Designating Department, National Trauma Data Standards, and Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). Demonstrate proficiency in capturing and entering data that contributes to accurate calculations of ISS, Trauma Score, TRISS, Probability of Survival Score; GCS; ICD/AIS coding, among others. Complete record abstraction, entry, and validation in compliance with the American College of Surgeons (ACS), State Designating Department, and current Trauma Program policies. Upload data to regional, state, and national registries as required. Perform queries and reports from the Trauma Registry as requested. Manage the Trauma Registry database and promptly communicate related issues to Trauma Program leadership. Analyze registry data for epidemiological reporting, communicating trends that may impact program performance, injury prevention, or staffing. Maintain confidentiality of written and verbal communication, autopsy reports, mortality and morbidity data, performance‑improvement activities, and peer‑review data. Prepare, distribute, and file reports, correspondence, and documents in the correct format, including referral feedback letters to EMS and referring hospitals. Precept new registry staff. Participate in trauma‑related activities within the Regional Advisory Council as requested. Engage in ongoing education regarding TQIP, if applicable, and other trauma‑related topics. Consistently promote a professional image in demeanor, appearance, attitude, and behavior. Support Trauma Program initiatives such as injury prevention, outreach, and education as directed. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Education/Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Complete Trauma Registry software training within 90 days of employment. Accrue 24 hours of trauma‑related continuing education during the designation/verification period (3 years). The following courses are required upon hire: Abbreviated Injury Scale course (AAAM). ICD‑10 course in trauma; renewal required every 5 years. Experience 2 – 4 years of ICD‑10 coding and AIS coding preferred. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) certification required.
