Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS/NOMC) – School-Based $75000 - $95000 per year | The Bronx, NY | On-site | Permanent State Retirement Plan! Options for full time or part time. This school-based Orientation and Mobility Specialist opportunity offers something increasingly difficult to find: meaningful work without a burnout culture. You will help students ages 3–21 who are blind or visually impaired develop the confidence, safety, and independence to navigate their school, community, and daily lives. You will have the resources, flexibility, and leadership support to do the work the way you were trained—not according to a rigid corporate or Department of Education mold. Full‑time and part‑time schedules are available. The school will consider someone available as little as two days per week. Why join us? This is not a fee‑for‑service environment. Most disciplines average approximately 10 sessions per day or 50 per week, but Orientation and Mobility sessions may run 45–60 minutes, so caseload expectations are adjusted accordingly. Healthcare benefits are available for eligible employees. Job Details What you will do Provide direct Orientation and Mobility instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired. Work with students who may also have developmental, physical, cognitive, or multiple disabilities. Deliver individualized instruction in one‑on‑one and school‑based settings. Teach students safe and effective travel techniques that improve independence. Develop, implement, and monitor Orientation and Mobility goals within student IEPs. Complete evaluations, progress reports, and required documentation. Use IEP Direct to document quarterly progress. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, families, and classroom staff. Integrate Orientation and Mobility goals into classroom and community activities. Adapt instruction, materials, and assessments to each student’s age, abilities, and needs. Apply current O&M techniques for students ages 3–21. What you will need Current ACVREP certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or current National Orientation and Mobility Certification (NOMC).
