About Definity

Definity is a fast-growing technology company changing how organizations manage their contingent workforce. Our platform powers healthcare staffing, vendor management, credentialing, and workforce analytics at enterprise scale. Our engineering culture values quality, reliability, and fast delivery.

The Role

You own a system or product area. You take ambiguous problems, define them with product, design a solution, and lead it to production, usually with other engineers working alongside you. When something is hard or broken, the team relies on you. This is a critical, hands-on role on a C#/.NET, React/TypeScript, and Azure platform.

What You Will Do

• Design and build services on .NET and Azure. Write design documents that name the trade-offs, failure modes, and running cost, and explain why you chose each Azure service.
• Own the health of your area: performance, reliability, test suite, and technical debt. Fix flaky tests instead of retrying them.
• Diagnose .NET performance and memory problems, and React rendering and bundle problems, from first principles.
• Tune Azure SQL, SQL Server, and MySQL workloads. Plan zero-downtime schema changes on large tables, and handle transactions, isolation, and locking deliberately.
• Lead incident response for your area, run blameless postmortems, close the follow-up actions, and treat recurring toil as a bug.
• Trade scope, quality, and time openly with product, and reshape requirements to cut cost without losing customer value.
• Mentor one or two engineers deliberately, and interview candidates with clear written feedback.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of professional software development, including ownership of a production system.
• Deep expertise in either C#/.NET (ASP.NET Core, EF Core) or React/TypeScript, and real competence in the other.
• Strong SQL across Azure SQL/SQL Server, with MySQL experience: query tuning, indexing, execution plans, and safe migrations at scale.
• Hands-on Azure experience: App Service, Functions, Service Bus, Key Vault, Application Insights, and Azure Monitor.
• CI/CD and delivery experience in Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Repos, Boards) or a comparable enterprise toolset.
• A track record of making other engineers better through code review, design review, and mentorship.
• The ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical colleagues.

Nice to Have

• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architecture and identity.
• Infrastructure as code (Bicep, ARM, or Terraform).
• Experience leading a legacy modernization or large migration without disrupting delivery.

What Success Looks Like

• Your area is measurably faster, more reliable, and cheaper to run, with a test suite the team trusts.
• Incidents in your area are handled calmly and don't recur.
• The engineers you mentor are growing into the next level.

Why Join

• Real ownership of systems that enterprise and healthcare customers depend on.
• Senior influence on design standards, technical direction, and hiring.
• A published career framework with a clear path to Principal Software Engineer.
