Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with hands‑on clinical experience and insight into daily operations. The program is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and offers exceptional service to animals and their owners. Externship Details Abby Pet Hospital externships typically last between two and eight weeks, with flexibility based on student and hospital schedules. The hybrid facility supports general practice, urgent care, and emergency services and is staffed by a 9‑doctor team dedicated to mentorship. The renovated 8,000‑square‑foot space is equipped with advanced technology for a fast‑paced environment. The practice sees small animals, exotics, and reptiles, providing diverse clinical exposure. Responsibilities Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations Create and implement treatment plans Conduct diagnostic procedures and dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage patients medically and maintain accurate records Communicate with the medical team, support staff, and clients to refine communication skills Eligibility All veterinary students, regardless of class year Students currently in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend Stipend The stipend at Abby Pet Hospital is $1,500.
