Our growing General Accounting Team is seeking a Senior General Ledger Accountant to contribute advanced expertise in general ledger accounting and reconciliation processes. This position performs and reviews accounting activities related to general ledger accounts, payments, financial statements, budgeting, and financial analysis. The role analyzes receipts, disbursements, and journal entries within the accounting system and monitors, reconciles, and reports on records, transactions, and accounts. This position processes program redeposits, reversals, and settlement corrections, and develops and performs highly complex general ledger reconciliations.In this position, you will:Perform all aspects of general ledger accounting including recording, processing, summarizing, reconciling, and reporting accounting transactions and data, and assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processesDevelop highly complex financial reconciliations, analyze and communicate results to management, and prepare related schedules and supporting documentation used in internal and external reporting including the Annual Comprehensive Financial ReportProcess, program redeposits, reversals, and settlement corrections in accordance with established accounting policies and proceduresAnalyze and evaluate data recorded in various financial systems including financial and investment data reported by the agency's financial institutions and master custodian, and prepare internal and external agency financial reports and related financial analysisMonitor evolving accounting guidance and work with the General Accounting Team and Finance management to interpret and implement Governmental Accounting Standards Board statements and other applicable accounting standards and practicesConsult and train staff on reporting, reconciliation, and analysis tools as needed and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support compliance with accounting standards, processes, procedures, and policiesSuccessful candidates will have:Seven or more years of relevant work experience in governmental accounting, finance, or related field, with demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), budget practices, financial reporting, and general business processes; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered; CPA preferredExperience with the Commonwealth's accounting procedures and policies preferredAbility to read, compile, analyze and accurately interpret complex accounting and financial records and statementsAbility to identify and define problems, collect and reconfigure data, establish facts, develop and communicate options and draw valid conclusionsDemonstrated critical thinking, decision making and analytical ability with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet critical deadlinesDemonstrated master level proficiency with Microsoft Excel; strong skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPointProficiency with financial systems and business accounting software (general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reporting); Frontier Reconciliation Software is a plusKnowledge of SQL Queries, Business Objects, and Tableau Reporting Software preferredAbility to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively, orally and in writingAbility to build rapport and collaborate with coworkers, other state government employees and the financial communityWork Environment:This position follows a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of two days on-site each weekTypical office environment with considerable time in a sitting, stationary positionConstantly operate a computer and other office equipment including typing and keyingFrequently communicate with team members and third-party business partners; must be able to exchange accurate information accordinglyBenefits:Generous healthcare benefits with multiple plans to choose fromDefined benefit and contribution retirement plans with cash match12+ holidaysPTO – new employees earn 25 days/full yearTuition reimbursementAgency-paid continuing education529 match programRelaxed work environmentContact Information:Name: Alicia DiggsEmail: View email address on click.appcast.io support of the Commonwealth's commitment to inclusion, we are encouraging individuals with disabilities to apply through the Commonwealth Alternative Hiring Process.
