We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to join a service-focused organization in Memphis, Tennessee. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for someone with foundational to intermediate payroll experience who can support accurate, timely payroll processing in a fast-paced environment. The role involves handling core payroll tasks, resolving timekeeping issues, and assisting with payroll administration across a large, multi-state workforce. Candidates who understand payroll compliance, deductions, and garnishment processing will be well positioned for success.

Responsibilities:
• Review employee time records for accuracy and follow up on missed or incomplete punches before payroll is finalized.
• Process routine payroll activities, including entering deductions, uploading approved time-based payments, and preparing payroll registers.
• Reconcile payroll totals and verify that earnings, deductions, and adjustments are balanced correctly each cycle.
• Support end-to-end payroll processing for a large employee population across multiple states, including locations with more complex wage and hour requirements such as California.
• Maintain payroll records and help ensure employee data is updated correctly for deductions, tax-related items, and other payroll changes.
• Administer wage garnishments and court-ordered withholdings in accordance with applicable requirements and deadlines.
• Assist in identifying and resolving payroll discrepancies by partnering with internal teams and responding to employee payroll questions.
• Contribute to accurate payroll tax handling and help ensure payroll activities align with company policies and regulatory standards.

• 1-2 years of payroll experience, including exposure to full-cycle payroll processing with working knowledge of UKG

• Working knowledge of timekeeping review, payroll deductions, payroll registers, and payroll balancing.

• Experience supporting payroll for employee populations ranging from approximately 101 to 500 employees or larger.

• Familiarity with garnishment processing, tax-related payroll elements, and general payroll compliance requirements.

• Ability to manage payroll tasks with accuracy, organization, and strong attention to detail.

• Understanding of multi-state payroll practices; experience with large organizations is preferred.

• Proficiency in handling confidential employee information with professionalism and discretion.
