Senior Associate Attorney - Insurance Defense 

Hybrid - 1750 Billable Hour Requirement

Starting Salary: $170,000 - $190,000

Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Associate Attorney to join our litigation team with a focus on insurance defense and related civil litigation matters. The Senior Associate will manage a high-volume caseload, develop and execute litigation strategy, lead discovery and motion practice, and represent clients in hearings and trials as needed. The ideal candidate will combine strong legal analysis and research skills with excellent written and verbal communication and a demonstrated track record in insurance defense and bad faith litigation.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and independently handle a diverse caseload in insurance defense and civil litigation from intake through resolution, including trials when required.
• Develop and implement litigation strategies and provide practical, client-focused advice to insurance carriers and corporate clients.
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and other court documents with precision and timeliness.
• Conduct legal research and prepare well-reasoned memoranda on complex legal issues related to insurance litigation and bad faith claims.
• Lead and coordinate discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and deposition notices; take and defend depositions.
• Prepare witnesses, exhibits, and trial materials; try cases in state and federal court when needed.
• Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status, strategy, and potential exposures; maintain strong client relationships and manage client expectations.
• Supervise, mentor, and review the work of junior associates, paralegals, and support staff; contribute to team development and training.
• Collaborate with claims professionals, experts, and co-counsel; manage outside counsel relationships and budgets when necessary.
• Participate in settlement negotiations and mediations, leveraging negotiation skills to achieve favorable client outcomes.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice Washington State.  Admission to Oregon is a plus. 
• Minimum 5 years of litigation experience, with a strong emphasis on insurance defense and insurance litigation; proven experience handling bad faith litigation is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated civil litigation experience in state and federal court, including motion practice, discovery management, and trial preparation.
• Outstanding legal research and analytical skills with the ability to distill complex legal issues into clear, persuasive written arguments.
• Excellent written communication skills for drafting pleadings, briefs, and client correspondence; superior verbal communication and courtroom presentation skills.
• Proven ability to manage a substantial caseload independently while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work product.
• Demonstrated teamwork and leadership abilities.
• Proficiency with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw or Lexis), case management software, and standard office technology.
• Strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, and professional judgment; high ethical standards and commitment to client service.
