2026 Housing Action Illinois | HAC | Training & Outreach

The Housing Counseling Trainings & Outreach VISTA will serve with Housing Action Illinois in Chicago, IL from September 2026-2027. Housing Action Illinois is the lead organization of Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program founded in 2010. The program works with a network of housing counseling agencies across the Midwest and beyond to provide technical assistance, training, funding, and capacity‑building support that helps organizations better serve communities experiencing housing instability and economic hardship. Responsibilities Expand Housing Action’s capacity to support intermediary partner agencies as they adapt to changes in HUD’s Comprehensive Housing Counseling program. Collaborate across Capacity Building, Communications, and Development teams to improve training access, strengthen outreach, identify funding opportunities, and support workforce development for HUD‑Certified housing counselors. Research HUD housing counseling guidance and identify key learning opportunities. Develop surveys and tools to assess agency needs. Create and facilitate five to ten trainings for intermediary partners and develop guides and manuals for new training topics. Track participant outcomes through evaluations and pre/post assessments. Research and support new funding opportunities. Assist in grant writing and data collection. Coordinate outreach to expand workforce opportunities for HUD‑Certified counselors. Draft communications and marketing materials and support email campaigns to increase participation in virtual and in‑person trainings. Qualifications Strong organizational, collaborative, and detail‑oriented skills. Experience in writing, presentations, outreach, research, or data tracking is helpful. Curiosity, initiative, and a commitment to advancing housing stability. Interest in affordable housing, nonprofit development, public policy, communications, training, or community development. High school diploma or GED required; higher education is a plus.
