Patient Registrar

Job Summary: The Patient Registration Representative I is responsible for facilitating patient access to care by performing all registration and pre-registration tasks for outpatient and inpatient accounts. This role includes calculating and securing patient financial liability, verifying insurance, and ensuring accurate and timely data entry while maintaining high standards of customer service and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Responsibilities: Register and pre-register patients efficiently and accurately, including demographic, insurance, and eligibility verification. Calculate and collect patient liabilities such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles in a professional and hospitable manner. Safeguard patient protected health information and maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA and hospital policies. Provide excellent guest relations by warmly greeting patients, physicians, and visitors and assisting with inquiries. Perform insurance eligibility screenings and assist with Hospital Presumptive Eligibility and Uncompensated Care program applications. Ensure timely completion of registrations within established timeframes, including emergency and outpatient settings. Maintain accurate and complete documentation, including scanning and filing of necessary paperwork. Communicate effectively with patients, staff, insurance companies, and physicians to resolve registration issues. Utilize computer systems for data entry, scheduling, insurance verification, and payment processing. Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards, including attendance and punctuality requirements. Participate in performance improvement initiatives and ongoing education to enhance job skills. Assist with other duties as assigned, including coverage across registration departments and off-site locations. Required Skills & Certifications: Minimum one year of experience in a high-volume healthcare facility or medical office setting. High school diploma or equivalent required. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in medical terminology and insurance billing. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to navigate multiple systems efficiently. Typing speed of 45+ words per minute. Knowledge of HIPAA laws and patient confidentiality standards. Driver's license and ability to travel to off-site outpatient locations. Preferred Skills & Certifications: Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin). Experience with hospital presumptive eligibility and uncompensated care programs. Prior medical billing or insurance verification experience. Special Considerations: Must comply with all HIPAA regulations and hospital confidentiality policies. Expected to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with stringent accuracy requirements. Required to maintain professional appearance and adhere to departmental dress code. May be required to work some weekends as part of the schedule. Must be flexible to adjust schedule based on departmental needs and census fluctuations. Scheduling: Five shifts per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Some weekend shifts required. Initial training schedule from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for the first two weeks. Shift assignments and scheduling adjustments made at management's discretion to meet operational needs. vTech Solution
