Transportation, Fleet Manager (26002SN) Summary Under direction of the Director of the Division of Transportation Services, manages all aspects of the repair and maintenance programs for Montgomery County Public Schools vehicles, including a large fleet of over 1,200 school buses. Plans, organizes, and directs the school bus fleet maintenance program; administers, assigns, and supervises the statewide vehicle repair program; operates five large garages; ensures proper bus maintenance and state‑mandated safety inspections; arranges maintenance for a variety of MCPS vehicles; coordinates procurement of parts, supplies, and equipment; assists with procurement specifications; supports budgeting, training, and administrative duties. Physical Demands Requires lifting up to 100 lbs., standing for extended periods, and performing physically demanding work. Special Requirements Must respond to urgent work at any time, work irregular hours during emergencies, pass the MCPS Auto Mechanic Test at required score (possible), undergo drug testing, and attend training programs as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of vehicle specifications and automotive maintenance and repair practices. Knowledge of procurement of parts, supplies, shop equipment, inventory, and financial reporting. Experience administering a comprehensive vehicle maintenance, repair, and inspection program. Strong human relations and oral/written communication skills. Ability to supervise staff and implement the Supporting Services Professional Growth System. Familiarity with pupil transportation programs and automated inventory/fuel dispensing systems (preferred). Education, Training, and Experience High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred. College coursework in transportation, management, or related field preferred. Progressive responsibility in large fleet maintenance, with school bus maintenance experience preferred. Certification and Licensure Valid Maryland Class B Commercial Driver's License (air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements) or equivalent. ASE Master certification preferred.
