Certified Occupational Therapist AssistantThe position of Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant's purpose is to provide educationally related occupational therapy services to students with a variety of exceptionalities according to the student's Individualized Education Plan and under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.Performance Responsibilities:Assists Occupational Therapist in conducting evaluations for students to determine eligibility and recommendations for treatment needs related to their educational setting with regard to: perceptual-motor, hand functions, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.Adapts school and classroom environment, tools and materials under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist for the purpose of improving student functioning and facilitating student access to curricular and instructional activities.Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.Provide direct and/or indirect occupational therapy services, under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, to students who qualify for an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for the purpose of developing students' daily living skills.Documents all students' records in a timely manner, including Medicaid billing and maintenance of files (progress reports, activity logs, treatment plans, evaluation, reports, etc).Participates in district wide work and professional days.Maintains appropriate professional standards of confidentiality and care.Researches resources and methods (i.e. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals.Understands medical and academic reports for the purpose of participating with the development of appropriate treatment/intervention plans.Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities, meet deadlines and schedules, work with detailed information/data and translate therapy data into meaningful educational activities.Follows policy and procedures as outlined in the therapy policy and procedures and Kansas state board of healing arts.Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. training, workshops, seminars, IEPs, team meetings, etc) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information.Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as deemed necessary.Terms of Employment: Salary and length of contract to be established by the board of education.Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.Essential Functions of the Job: The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant's goal is to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability, in order to maximize quality of life, under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.Physical Requirements of the Job:1. Requires prolonged (over 75% of time) standing and walking.5. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, push heavy* objects or materials.6. Frequently (over 20% of time) requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy* objects or materials.7. Frequently (over 33% of time) requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy* objects or materials.8. Over 50% of the time requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy* objects or materials.9. In addition to items 5, 6, 7, & 8, occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry or push heavy objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.10. Driving skills and physical ability required to drive vehicle.11. Special physical, agility and reaction time tests required.12. Ability to perform first aid and CPR.*"Heavy" means not over 50 pounds.
