Accounting Clerk

Full-time

Virtual Partner Advantage

At Virtual Partner Advantage, we care about experience, but we don't believe a résumé tells us everything we need to know about someone's potential. We hire for aptitude, drive, and fit, not just credentials.

Maybe you already work in accounting. Maybe you've handled billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing, or bookkeeping.

Maybe you're finishing school and looking for the right place to start your career.

Or maybe you know you want to work somewhere connected to technology and business, but you're not exactly sure where you fit yet.

If you're good with technology, analytical, detail-oriented, quick to learn, and genuinely curious about how all the pieces of a business work together, keep reading.

You may have more of the foundation we're looking for than you realize.

First, here's what we do

Virtual Partner Advantage isn't a traditional CPA firm.

For nearly 30 years, we've helped growing businesses manage their day-to-day accounting and better understand the financial side of their business.

We work closely with MSPs and technology businesses across the country, serving our clients remotely and becoming part of the financial function behind their businesses.

That means our team gets a front-row seat to how the business side of technology actually works.

From purchasing and vendors to billing, payroll, reporting, and financial decision-making, the work connects in ways you may not expect.

Even an entry-level role here is connected to something bigger.

What you'll actually do

This is a hands-on accounting role, and your exact responsibilities may vary based on your experience, strengths, and where you're the best fit on our team.

Your work may include:

  • Posting bills and recording customer payments
  • Entering and reviewing credit card and expense transactions
  • Supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Working with purchasing, vendors, and billing information
  • Handling prepaids and accruals
  • Assisting with collections
  • Processing payroll
  • Preparing and sending invoices
  • Maintaining accurate financial records
  • Working across client systems to keep financial information organized and up to date

If you already know how to do some or all of that, great.

If you don't, that doesn't automatically rule you out.

You don't need accounting experience. You do need to be comfortable with technology.

VPA is fully digital.

Our clients are located across the country, our work is done electronically, and technology is part of nearly everything we do.

You'll work across Microsoft products, accounting platforms, client systems, spreadsheets, digital communication tools, and an evolving set of technology that includes AI.

We don't expect you to know every system we use on your first day.

We do expect you to be comfortable working on a computer, navigating common digital tools, picking up new software, and moving between systems without getting overwhelmed.

You should be the kind of person who is willing to click around, explore, ask questions, and figure out how something works.

As technology evolves, we expect our team to evolve with it.

We'll teach you our accounting processes and the systems specific to VPA and our clients.

We're looking for someone who already has the digital aptitude to learn them.

You might be a great fit if...

You're comfortable with technology and tend to pick up new systems pretty quickly.

You actually enjoy spreadsheets, numbers, patterns, or problem-solving.

You like understanding how things work behind the scenes.

You're curious about how purchasing, vendors, billing, financials, and business operations all connect.

When someone teaches you a process, you want to understand the why, not just memorize which buttons to click.

You notice when something doesn't look right and want to figure out why.

You care about getting the details right.

You can spot a process that could work better and can't help wondering how to improve it.

People can count on you to follow through.

You ask questions when you need help, but you're also willing to try to find the answer.

And you're looking for somewhere to build a career, not just somewhere to collect a paycheck for a while.

There's more than one way to be great here.

Some of our strongest people are incredibly consistent.

Give them something to own and you can trust that it will be accurate, complete, and done when it needs to be done.

Others naturally look ahead.

They spot problems. They ask questions. They find better ways to work. They're always wondering what they can learn or take on next.

And some people are simply fascinated by how all the pieces fit together. Technology, systems, numbers, processes, business operations. They want to understand the whole machine.

We need all of those people.

We're not hiring for one personality type.

We're looking for capable people who care about their work, take ownership of it, and want to keep developing their strengths.

What you'll find at VPA

We take our work seriously, but we also take our people seriously.

We believe people do their best work when they're in the right seat, using their strengths and continuing to develop them.

You'll have people around you who want you to succeed. You'll be expected to ask questions, learn from feedback, and become more independent as your knowledge grows.

Two ideas are especially important to how we work:

Unbelievable Service. Our clients trust us with an important part of their businesses. We want them to feel the difference in the accuracy, responsiveness, and care we bring to that responsibility.

The Right Person in the Right Seat. People aren't interchangeable. We want to understand what you're good at, where you can grow, and how those strengths can best contribute to the team.

As you develop, your role can develop too.

That could mean deeper accounting responsibilities, monthly reporting, more client interaction, exposure to different areas of the business, or increasingly complex work as your skills grow.

You don't have to know exactly where your career will take you yet.

You do need to be excited about building one.

What we're asking you to bring

You don't need a perfect résumé.

You don't need years of accounting experience.

And you don't need to check every box before you apply.

But you do need a solid foundation.

You need to be comfortable with technology. You need to care about accuracy. You need to be dependable, communicate when you have questions or run into a problem, learn from feedback, and follow through on what you own.

Bring us the aptitude, curiosity, and drive to understand how it all works.

We'll teach you how we do things here.

Still thinking, "I could be good at this"?

Good. Apply.

Send us your résumé and include a few sentences telling us what caught your attention about this opportunity.

If you have accounting experience, tell us about it.

If you don't, tell us what you've done that makes you think you'd be good at this.

Maybe your background is in technology, purchasing, business, finance, operations, or something else entirely.

We're interested in where you've been, but we're just as interested in what you're capable of doing next.
