Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Montgomery County Educational Service Center is seeking a teacher of the visually impaired. This position is located at Montgomery County ESC - Regional Center with daily travel to client districts required. The start date is ASAP, and the salary is commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time position.

The role involves developing and delivering lesson plans aligned with state standards, district curriculum, and IEP goals. The teacher will assist with student identification, evaluations, parent conferences, IEP development, and periodic reviews. Direct instruction in Braille, readiness skills, daily living skills, concept development, and other specialized skills for visually impaired students is required. The teacher will select and implement appropriate reading media, align teaching strategies with individual learning styles, and use evidence-based instructional techniques. Student progress will be tracked using formative and summative assessments, and timely feedback will be provided. Activities supporting sensory processing and functional independence will be developed and implemented. Clear communication of IEP and SDI objectives to families and staff will be necessary, along with participation in team meetings to plan services relevant to student needs. Positive behavioral interventions to support communication, self-regulation, socialization, and independence will be used.

Required Ohio State Board of Education teaching credentials are needed, along with knowledge and experience in instruction for students with visual impairments, including Braille and adaptive strategies. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills are essential, as is a commitment to high-performance standards, professional ethics, and student advocacy. Satisfactory fingerprinting and criminal records check results are required (provided for free by MCESC!).
