Assistant Cook

Assistant Cook – Elementary Building BCCS seeks an Assistant Cook to prepare, cook, and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner foods, maintain kitchen cleanliness, manage records, and assist with various tasks under the supervision of the Head Cook and District Nutrition Services Manager. Core Values We stand front and center We demonstrate passion, pride, and perseverance We acknowledge and disrupt oppressive systems Our diversity fuels learning We fiercely lead in justice‑centered education Essential Job Responsibilities Prepare, cook, and serve menu items; set up a la carte items and serve as cashier, including counting and recording cash Operate dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamer, deep fryer, oven, and other foodservice equipment Serve students in a safe, supportive, culturally responsive, equitable, and welcoming learning environment Pre‑prepare, cook, and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner foods Prep lunch items for the head cook, stock salad, deli, beverage machines, and condiment cart; prepare and serve sandwiches made to order Clean kitchen and equipment, wash and store dishes and utensils; wash, fold, and store laundry; perform general cleaning chores Replenish food, beverage, and utensil supplies during meal service periods and ensure portions served are consistent Create a welcoming environment for students and positively interact with all students and staff Stock and rotate food supplies; maintain sanitary standards Assist with maintaining production records; count and report leftovers; record food items and supplies used and meals served Report accidents and/or issues occurring in the kitchen or cafeteria Assist in estimating and ordering food supplies Serve as baker in the baker's absence Support catering as needed Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Preferred) High School Diploma or GED Understanding of food quality, nutritional and economical substitutions within food groups Knowledge of principles and practices for storing food in large quantities Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety measures for food handling and equipment care General knowledge of materials and methods for preparing and serving meats, bread, vegetables, and other foods on a large scale General knowledge of food preparation equipment use or care Some knowledge of U.S.D.A. rules and regulations Duty Days Monday – Friday, 6:30 am to 2:00 pm Requirements Must hold and maintain a food protection manager certification. Pay and Benefits $20.75–$23.18 DOQ, union approved. Additional certification pay per hour: Level 1 $1.20, Level 2 $1.65, Level 3 $2.00, Level 4 $2.35.
