Nuclear Medicine Technologist - Per Diem

A patient’s nuclear medicine exam, ordered by a physician, is performed safely, accurately, appropriately, and promptly. The patient’s physical and emotional needs, while in the department, are met compassionately and competently. The patient’s privacy is protected. An accurate, complete record is produced for each exam. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Performs all aspects of diagnostic nuclear medicine. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals. Maintains receipt, dispensing, and disposal records for radiopharmaceuticals used. Reviews medical records or takes the patient's history (orally) to determine the indication for ordered exams and the need for the procedure. Refers to supervisor or physician if in doubt. Performs patient study according to department protocol, with appropriate modifications based on patient history. Evaluates images for completeness and accuracy. Acquires additional images or data as needed. Performs radiation surveys and measurements; maintains records necessary for compliance with the state Dept. of Public Health, Radiation Control. Performs quality control procedures and maintains records for all major equipment, according to standard procedure and JCAHO requirements. Reports deficiencies to supervisor. Wears all required radiation monitoring devices, uses all required protective shielding, and complies with State and department radiation safety procedures. Provides on-call coverage on a rotating basis. Interacts professionally and courteously with patients, co-workers, and medical staff. Assists in the clinical training of student technologists from the affiliated program and hospital radiology residents. Utilizes time productively and appropriately for patient flow, restocking supplies, cleaning equipment, and assisting with clerical duties to increase department efficiency. Ensures patient wait time is minimized. Spends more than 90% of time working on productive tasks without supervisory prompting. Follows Universal Precaution guidelines with each patient. Attends yearly “Blood-borne Pathogens/OSHA” inservice. Practices aseptic technique. Produces an accurate RIS and PACS record of each exam. Completes all Meditech entries and edits orders to reflect the correct exam. Sends complete record to PACS on correct accession number. Pursues continuing education by attending department and hospital-wide programs, regional seminars, and/or college courses. Maintains annual CPR certification. Meets ARRT/NMTCB standards. Meets Massachusetts State licensing standards Willingly performs any task for which the employee is competent. Minimum Qualifications: Graduate from a formal nuclear medicine technology program with an AS or BS degree. Registered by the NMTCB and/or ARRT Licensed in Nuclear Medicine by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Good interpersonal skills. Physical Requirements & Environment: Requires standing, bending, pushing, pulling, walking, and/or lifting to 50% of the time. Exposure to radiation, infectious diseases, chemicals, and hazardous materials 75% of the time. Ability to hear the conversation, comprehend and communicate in spoken and written English more than 75% of the time. Ability to wear protective equipment, such as gloves, masks, and gowns. Ability to work and move about in confined spaces. Requires visual concentration at video display terminals up to 75% of the time. Will perform data entry with repetitive hand movement. Pay Range: $47.00 - $69.84 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
