Travel RN Position Overview

Join a specialized medical-surgical telemetry nursing team in Columbus, Ohio, as a travel Registered Nurse caring for adult and geriatric patients with complex oncology and surgical diagnoses. This 16-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to support patients receiving chemotherapy, clinical trial treatment, brachytherapy, continuous bladder irrigation, and post-surgical care in a collaborative acute-care environment. • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
• Scheduling: Night shifts; weekends are variable according to unit needs. Rotating day/night scheduling may be available based on department needs.
• Orientation: 72 hours
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients
• Unit Profile: Approximately 36 beds with a typical daily census of 36
• Float Requirement: May float to other medical-surgical oncology units

Medical-Surgical Telemetry Travel RN Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license in Ohio or a valid compact-state RN license in hand at the time of submission
• At least 2 years of current acute-care experience in medical-surgical telemetry nursing, with consistent specialty experience within the past 12 months
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Recent experience interpreting and managing cardiac dysrhythmias and caring for telemetry patients
• Experience with chemotherapy administration and monitoring, preferably in an oncology setting
• Experience with Epic electronic health record documentation
• Clinical experience with PCA pumps, surgical drains, tracheostomy care, feeding or NG tubes, Foley catheters, IV therapy, blood products, and central-line maintenance
• Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
• Oncology Nursing Society chemotherapy certification is preferred
• Two professional references are required, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
• Ability to complete required credentialing and Ohio fingerprinting promptly before the assignment start date

Travel RN Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers, as well as patients recovering from hysterectomy and cystectomy procedures
• Administer chemotherapy and monitor patients for therapeutic response, complications, and adverse reactions
• Support clinical trial participation, treatment coordination, and accurate collection and documentation of patient information
• Provide care related to brachytherapy, continuous bladder irrigation, neobladders, surgical drains, epidurals, PCA pumps, NG tubes, and urinary catheters
• Monitor telemetry, recognize dysrhythmias, and initiate appropriate nursing interventions for changes in patient condition
• Perform comprehensive assessments, administer medications, manage IV therapy and blood products, and maintain central lines according to clinical standards
• Apply infection-prevention practices and implement fall-prevention strategies in a high-acuity oncology environment
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic
• Collaborate with physicians, pharmacy, respiratory services, physical therapy, radiology, social services, interpretation services, and rapid response teams
• Promote patient and family education, safety, comfort, and continuity of care throughout the assignment
