Senior Principal Engineer - Applied ML/AI Algorithms R&D for Advanced Patient Monitoring

Becton Dickinson seeks a Senior Principal Engineer to lead development of machine learning and AI algorithms for advanced patient monitoring systems. The role spans algorithm design through production deployment in regulated environments, emphasizing clinical translation and real-world impact. The successful candidate will drive technical direction, mentor engineers, and establish MLOps practices while partnering across clinical, product, and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end development of AI/ML algorithms from exploration through production deployment
• Set technical direction across projects, influencing modeling, data, and product design strategy
• Translate clinical and product requirements into scalable, deployable AI/ML solutions
• Build MLOps infrastructure and experimentation pipelines to accelerate team velocity
• Mentor engineers and partner with clinical, regulatory, and engineering teams on market readiness

Requirements

• PhD with 4+ years or MS with 7+ years or BS with 8+ years in AI/ML, data science, or software engineering
• Experience deploying applied AI, machine learning, LLM/LMM, or decision/recommendation systems to production
• Proven technical leadership driving high-impact initiatives and influencing cross-functional teams
• Deep expertise in modern ML/DL/AI frameworks for cloud and edge/embedded deployment
• Strong product judgment balancing speed, complexity, and real-world clinical impact
• Experience designing robust evaluation frameworks and working with real-world, imperfect data
• Track record mentoring engineers and establishing engineering practices
