This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Lowell Correctional Institution in the Education department. This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model.

The Bureau of Education at the Florida Department of Corrections provides comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Job duties include planning, developing, and conducting classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement. Supervising inmates in the class, conducting roll calls, counts, and maintaining attendance records. Ensuring order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluating student progress, and administering grades and tests. Counseling and advising individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns. Participating in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assisting in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Salary incentives may include an additional $1,499.94 annually for applicants in possession of a master's degree and a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus for possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate.

Requirements include a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university and possession or eligibility to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate. Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate within 12 months of hire.
