Payroll Manager

Robert Half is partnering with a growing organization in the construction industry to identify a skilled Payroll Manager for a fully onsite leadership opportunity. This is an excellent role for a payroll professional who thrives in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and brings deep expertise in union payroll, certified payroll, and construction payroll operations.

This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of a complex payroll function, lead a team, and play a key role in a payroll system transition to CMiC. If you are a hands-on payroll leader who can balance day-to-day execution with process improvement, this could be an outstanding next step.

What You’ll Do

• Lead weekly payroll processing for a large and growing employee population
• Oversee complex union payroll administration across multiple bargaining agreements
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of certified payroll and related compliance reporting
• Manage year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and payroll reconciliations
• Supervise, coach, and develop a payroll team of 3
• Support the organization’s transition from Sage to CMiC
• Maintain payroll accuracy, compliance, and consistency in a deadline-driven environment
• Partner with internal teams to resolve payroll issues and improve workflows
• Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes and enhance department efficiency

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience in a Payroll Manager or payroll leadership role
• Strong background in the construction industry is required
• Deep knowledge of union payroll and union reporting requirements
• Hands-on experience with certified payroll
• Experience managing or mentoring payroll staff
• CMiC experience preferred
• Prior exposure to payroll system implementations or migrations is highly valued
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to lead from the front and bring structure to a busy payroll operation
