Diesel Fleet Mechanic Technician I

Pay & Hours Hourly rate: $21.50 – $32.50, depending on experience. Overtime may be available. Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM. Shift differential: $3.00 per hour. Annual tool allowance: $700, paid bi‑annually. Sign‑on bonus: up to $7,500. Job Summary Assist Fleet Technician II and Fleet Technician III in providing safe, reliable, and cost‑efficient vehicles by learning to perform preventive maintenance inspections, repairs, and diagnostics. Reduce vehicle downtime and improve overall fleet reliability. Responsibilities Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment under supervision to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency. Conduct FAI/CVI (First Article Inspection – Commercial Vehicle Inspection) inspections annually on all fleet vehicles, including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, light‑duty vehicles, and company equipment. Execute quality preventive maintenance inspections per company methods on all fleet vehicles, including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, lift‑gates, light‑duty vehicles, and other equipment. Carry out maintenance repairs, including inspections, scheduled repairs, malfunctions, and road‑call repairs, to maximize fleet safety and reliability. Address all driver vehicle inspection report write‑ups accurately and timely. Diagnose and repair malfunctions to manufacturer specifications, covering engines, transmissions, clutches, drive‑line, differential, steering and suspension, fuel and ignition, exhaust (including regeneration), intake, electrical, brake, HVAC systems, and lift‑gate hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems. Document all work performed on work orders using the complaint, cause, and correction format. Develop proficiency in Sysco computer programs. Education Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training, 2‑year school (preferred). High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience No experience required. Current and valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred. Professional Skills Basic knowledge of vehicle systems and components. Basic knowledge of diagnosing and repairing electrical systems on equipment. Basic welding and cutting skills (gas, electric, MIG, TIG). Basic computer skills. Additional Qualifications Own and provide all required tools; diagnostic equipment and major tools are provided by Sysco. Undergo performance reviews and training to improve skills. Certifications (preferred, not required): Annual Inspector Certification, Brake Inspector Certification, ASE (Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks), 609 HVAC Certification. Work with computer‑based diagnostic software for OEMs and component manufacturers. Complete Sysco SIU training modules for safety and other courses. Physical Demands Stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, reach, talk, and hear regularly. Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or crawl frequently. Sit occasionally and lift or move up to 100 lb. Require hand and finger dexterity for wrench and hand tool use. Vision required: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Working Conditions Exposure to wet, hot, extreme cold, or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; work in confined spaces. Non‑traditional business hours: evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on‑call. Possible travel to other company locations or corporate office.
