Opportunity Highlights

The Medical Director will be responsible for offering strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for the Interventional Radiology program across both inpatient and outpatient environments. This role involves close collaboration with hospital administration, radiology leadership, vascular surgery, oncology, hepatology, nephrology, trauma, emergency medicine, and surgical services to further develop a robust IR service line that meets the evolving needs of the community.

Our Interventional Radiology program is bolstered by skilled technologists, dedicated nursing staff, advanced imaging technologies, and a cooperative procedural atmosphere that is continually expanding in both complexity and volume. The program conducts a wide array of minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and is well-positioned for ongoing growth in oncology interventions, vascular disease management, image-guided procedures, and outpatient procedural care.

Interventional Radiology Services Offered Include:

• Oncology:
  • Image-guided biopsies
  • Tumor Ablation
  • Y-90 Radioembolization
• Vascular:
  • Peripheral angiography and stent placement
  • Thrombolysis/thrombectomy
  • AV fistula and graft interventions
  • IVC filter placement/removal
  • Embolization
  • TIPS
• Non-Vascular:
  • Para/Thoracentesis
  • Nephrostomy, Gastrostomy, and Gastrojejunostomy tube placement
  • Myelogram
• Women's & Men's Health:
  • Uterine or Prostate embolization
  • Hysterosalpingography (HSG)
  • Fallopian tube recanalization
• Pain and Musculoskeletal:
  • Bone biopsies
  • Joint & Spine injections
  • Vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty
• Neuro Intervention:
  • Neuro interventional procedures (preferred; at least one physician will support stroke intervention in collaboration with neurology)

The incoming leader will have the chance to:

• Guide the ongoing growth and strategic direction of the Interventional Radiology program
• Recruit, mentor, and develop additional IR physicians and APP support
• Enhance clinical partnerships across oncology, vascular, hepatobiliary, and surgical specialties
• Promote quality, safety, operational efficiency, and patient experience initiatives
• Engage in program development, innovation, and procedural expansion opportunities
• Establish relationships with referring physicians and community providers throughout Northern Virginia
• Maintain an active clinical practice with a balanced mix of procedural and leadership duties

Candidate Qualifications

• Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology with fellowship training in Interventional Radiology
• Board Certified/Eligible in Interventional Radiology/Diagnostic Radiology (IR/DR)
• Eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia
• A minimum of 3 years of hospital-based Interventional Radiology experience is required; 5+ years is strongly preferred. Previous formal or informal leadership experience within an IR program or service line is highly desirable
• A strong interest in program development, physician engagement, and multidisciplinary collaboration
• Neuro interventional radiology skills are preferred (at least one member of the IR team will be required to support stroke intervention services in collaboration with the neurology team)
• Proven ability to work effectively in a hospital-based clinical setting with strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
