About the Role The Pipe Fitter – Experienced position at Newport News Shipbuilding is a full‑time role in the PIPE team. The primary responsibility is to install, fabricate, inspect, and test complex piping systems on a ship and in the shop. You will learn to read blueprints, fabricate components, and perform quality inspections. Early in your tenure you will attend a Fundamentals of Piping Fitting class and will receive ongoing training throughout your career. Key Responsibilities Install and assemble piping systems on submarines (23 miles) and carriers (230 miles). Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Fabricate, weld, and assemble piping components. Inspect and test installed piping systems for quality and safety compliance. Participate in scheduled training and continuous improvement initiatives. Must Have Requirements Ability to work at extreme heights or in small confined spaces. Capability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb. Strength to lift 40 lbs and ability to pass a respirator fit test. Work indoors or outdoors year‑round in all weather conditions. Flexible to work assigned shifts as production needs dictate. Pass a Physical Agility Test. At least 1 year of previous Marine Pipe Fitter experience. Nice to Have High school graduate or equivalent.
