Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Cath Lab Tech assists physicians with various procedures, including cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, atherectomy, TEC, rotablator, valvuloplasty, intra-vascular ultrasound, pulmonary angiograms, insertion of intra-aortic balloon pumps, and stents. The role also involves acquiring skills for new procedures and technologies as they develop.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sterile trays and organize equipment for procedures.
• Prepare patients, attach EKG leads, perform betadine scrubs, and drape patients.
• Assist cardiac catheterization nurses in patient preparation and monitoring.
• Calibrate and test transducers for accurate pressure readings.
• Support physicians during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Operate power injectors and maintain digital cine technologies for image storage and retrieval.
• Ensure proper downloading of patient data to the hospital mainframe.
• Assist in emergency situations to restore or maintain patient well-being.
• Support sheath removal and insertion of vascular closure devices post-procedure.
• Monitor inventory and notify appropriate personnel of supply needs.
• Maintain, calibrate, and evaluate diagnostic and technical equipment.
• Lift, push, and pull equipment as required (minimum 40 lbs. lifting, 100 lbs. pushing/pulling).
• Provide patient care tailored to specific needs, including age, culture, and communication requirements.
• Adhere to organizational competencies and standards.

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory or invasive procedure area in an acute care hospital.
• 6-12 months in a CVT-accredited program or 2 years in another cardiac vascular laboratory.
• Familiarity with computers, hemodynamic monitoring, and sterile operative techniques.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (BS) preferred.
