Associate Auditor

Valero is looking for an Associate Auditor to join the team at the Headquarters in San Antonio, Texas! This position assists Internal Audit Management in the optimization of profits, safeguarding of Corporate assets, and ensuring the reliability and accuracy of financial data by making an examination and appraisal of financial and operating controls and procedures to provide suggestions for improvements and recommendations concerning activities reviewed. This position:

• Identifies key risks and the related controls within business processes and designs control test steps to address key risks.
• Assists with advisory service activities within all areas of the Company by delivering agreed upon professional services, and identifying improvement opportunities that add value to management.
• Assists with audit project planning including initial client interviews, preparation of audit planning memorandums and risk matrices.
• Executes test steps to assess operational effectiveness of key controls, providing clear and concise testing documentation for review.
• Examines activities of all areas of the Company to determine the extent of compliance with policies and procedures, and rules of regulatory agencies.
• Assists with the identification of potentially fraudulent activity by performing data analytics and through the review of contracts, invoices, public records, and social media.
• Assists with the preparation of written reports of audit results and the follow up of audit recommendations made to ensure implementation.
• Demonstrates teamwork and responsibility with engagement team members.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications

• Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio Headquarters, required.
• Bachelor's or higher level degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (e.g. Economics, Data Analytics, etc.).
• 1 year of internal auditing, public accounting, or general accounting experience preferred.
• 1 relevant professional designation preferred: CPA, CIA, CISA, and/or CFE
• Experience in the refining and marketing business preferred.
• Experience using data analytic/database tools preferred (ACL, Power Query, Power BI, ACCESS, SQL, or other querying tools).
• SAP systems experience preferred.
