RN Orthopedic Neurology Unit

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse on the Ortho/Neuro Unit provides skilled nursing care to patients during night shifts, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop and execute individualized patient care plans. This role involves medication administration, patient assessment, documentation, and participation in performance improvement activities. The nurse ensures patient safety and quality care in accordance with nursing standards and state regulations, while supporting patient and family education. Responsibilities:

• Utilize the nursing process to assess and care for patients on the Ortho/Neuro Unit.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments following approved nursing techniques and policies.
• Document patient care and treatments accurately according to standards of care.
• Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and hospital policies.
• Provide patient and family education related to care plans and treatments.
• Participate in department or unit performance improvement and shared governance activities.
• Offer clinical expertise and guidance to other units/departments as needed to support patient care continuity.
• Apply critical thinking to ensure patient safety and escalate concerns through appropriate channels.
• May be required to float to other units as a travel RN.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse License.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• CPR/BLS certification.
• Ability to utilize nursing process and clinical judgment effectively.
• Strong documentation skills adhering to standards of care.
• Less than 1 year experience acceptable; clinical expertise expected.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in orthopedics, neurology, or trauma nursing.
• Previous night shift nursing experience.
• Participation in shared governance or quality improvement initiatives.

Special Considerations:

• Position requires working every other weekend and holidays.
• 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
• May require floating to other units as a travel RN.

Scheduling:

• Night shift schedule: 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
• 12-hour shifts with every other weekend and holiday coverage.
