Tennessee Oncology is a leading community-based cancer care specialist. We are looking for a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician to support our clinical trial network. Job Description Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for the collection of patient specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring safe handling of blood, body fluids, and hazardous chemicals, recording lab testing, quality control and assurance, assisting physicians with procedures and exams, and maintaining inventory levels of reagents and supplies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Maintain laboratory procedures, equipment and processes to aid diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Ensure all laboratory reports are reviewed and appropriate values are noted. Follow proper guidelines for safe handling of blood, body fluids and hazardous chemicals. Perform laboratory testing and operate automated equipment within the limits described in the procedure manual. Maintain proper records of laboratory testing and results as described in the policy and procedures manual. Adhere to CLIA compliance requirements. Perform quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of clinical data. Interact with medical staff and assist physicians with procedures and exams as requested. Maintain sufficient inventory of laboratory supplies for daily operations. Understand LIS; including ordering tests, rejecting tests, reviewing and approving results. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Demonstrate ability to perform clean venipuncture. Demonstrate ability to perform capillary collections. Demonstrate knowledge of procedures and practices. Demonstrate understanding of proper quality control procedures, use of control materials, and documentation of QC results and corrective action. Demonstrate knowledge of ongoing quality assurance activities and document breaches of quality as they occur. Demonstrate ability to perform routine maintenance on automated equipment. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting, correct them or notify Director or Manager. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from laboratory’s established performance specifications. Read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Take direction and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients and other employees. Build rapport with patients to deliver exceptional direct patient care. Multi-task and work under pressure. Be patient-service oriented. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Current State of Tennessee Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist license required. Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience preferred; hematology experience preferred. Excellent phlebotomy skills. Associate degree in Applied Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology or Bachelor degree in Medical Technology required. Outpatient facility experience preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr Astera Cancer Care
