About the Role

This position provides early intervention services to infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities and supports families through a family-centered, team-based approach. The Physical Therapist evaluates developmental needs, develops treatment plans, provides therapy services, and collaborates with families and interdisciplinary professionals to help children reach their fullest potential.

What you will do:

Assessment & Intervention

• Conduct developmental assessments and re-assessments for infants and toddlers referred to the Infant Parent Program.
• Evaluate motor development, muscle tone, strength, range of motion, gait, postural control, adaptive equipment needs, and overall movement quality.
• Develop recommendations and contribute to Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
• Provide physical therapy services in home and community settings based on each child's needs and family priorities.
• Continuously monitor progress and modify interventions as appropriate.

Family Coaching & Support

• Partner with parents and caregivers to integrate therapeutic strategies into daily routines and play activities.
• Coach families in positioning, handling, mobility, and developmental activities.
• Support families in building confidence and skills to meet their child's developmental needs.
• Attend medical appointments, school meetings, and team meetings with families when requested.

Team Collaboration

• Participate as an active member of a transdisciplinary early intervention team.
• Collaborate with physicians, educators, service coordinators, and other specialists to ensure coordinated care.
• Contribute to IFSP development and ongoing service planning.
• Participate in staff meetings, agency initiatives, and assigned committees.

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete evaluations, therapy notes, IFSP documentation, transition plans, and reports within required timelines.
• Maintain records in compliance with Medicaid, insurance, local, state, and federal requirements.
• Communicate significant changes in a child's status to physicians and team members as appropriate.
• Maintain data and reports to support program outcomes and quality initiatives.

Professional Development

• Participate in continuing education, workshops, and professional development activities.
• Supervise student interns, volunteers, or assigned staff members.
• Support agency training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree or higher in Physical Therapy.
• Current Virginia Physical Therapy license in good standing.
• Current Infant and Child CPR certification.
• OSHA training or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel for home visits.
• Ability to pass required criminal background checks and TB screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with infants, toddlers, and young children with developmental delays or disabilities.
• Experience providing early intervention services in natural environments.
• Knowledge of family-centered practices and coaching strategies.
• Familiarity with Virginia Early Intervention regulations and IFSP processes.
