Junior Fiber Installation Technician (Data Center)

Turner Construction is seeking Junior Fiber Installation Technicians to support data center infrastructure projects in New Albany, Ohio. This is an entry-level to early-career role focused on fiber installation, cable routing, basic connectivity, and infrastructure support within a live data center environment. This position is ideal for candidates with electrical, low-voltage, or construction experience who are looking to grow into the fiber and data center space. Technicians will assist with installing fiber cabling systems, maintaining infrastructure, and supporting senior technicians with testing and troubleshooting activities.

Assist with installation and routing of fiber optic and low-voltage cabling in data center environments

Support termination of fiber and copper cables into patch panels and network racks (under supervision)

Perform basic cable management, including dressing, labeling, and securing cables

Assist with testing and verification of connectivity using light meters or basic test equipment

Support troubleshooting of connectivity issues in racks, cabinets, and panels

Read and follow basic schematics, blueprints, and installation diagrams

Perform basic electrical tasks, such as panel assistance, grounding awareness, and safe tool usage

Maintain accurate labels, work logs, and installation documentation

Follow all job site safety standards, PPE requirements, and data center protocols

Inside plant work within a data center environment

Work in server rack aisles, ladder racks, and cable tray systems

Exposure to loud equipment and cooling systems

Use of PPE (hearing protection, safety gear, etc.) required

May involve lifting, climbing ladders, and working in tight spaces

Fiber optic fundamentals (installation, termination, testing)

Use of testing tools such as light meters and OTDR (on-the-job training)

Data center infrastructure standards and best practices

Advanced troubleshooting and cable management techniques

02.5 years of experience in one or more of the following:

Electrical work (residential, commercial, or industrial)

Low-voltage cabling (Cat5/Cat6, security, access control, etc.)

Construction or infrastructure installation

Exposure to data center environments or telecom infrastructure

Structured cabling (Cat5/Cat6)

Cable trays, ladder racks, or conduit installation

IDF/MDF or network rack environments
