Overview Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for a full‑time night shift in Suffolk, VA. Sign‑on bonus up to $20,000 for qualified candidates. New Graduate Bonus: $7,500. About the Unit The Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) is a licensed 20‑bed unit that treats patients with dual diagnoses such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, major depression, and substance abuse. It is a low‑to‑moderate acuity locked unit. Nurses work within a full interdisciplinary team (mental health techs, LPNs, behavioral health therapist, recreational therapist, nurse practitioner, and psychiatrist) and provide individual care as well as group therapy sessions. Registered Nurse Transition to Practice Programs Automatic enrollment for RNs with less than 12 months experience or transitioning to a new practice area. General nursing orientation. Responsibilities The RN is responsible for providing competent nursing care, applying critical thinking and the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation). The RN must adhere to standards of practice and professional performance, including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality improvement, resource utilization, and environmental health. Education Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing (required). Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Students completing an accredited nursing program may be considered. Certification / Licensure Registered Nursing license required. Students obtaining a RN license may be considered. Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire. Experience No experience required. Behavioral health experience highly preferred. 1 year of acute care experience preferred.
