Position Summary

A Welder/Fitter III is a highly skilled fabrication professional responsible for interpreting complex drawings, fitting and assembling components, and performing advanced welding on heavy steel structures, transformer components, or custom fabricated assemblies. This position works independently with minimal supervision and serves as a resource to less experienced welders and fitters by providing guidance, training, and technical support. The Welder/Fitter III is expected to maintain high standards of quality, safety, productivity, and workmanship while ensuring projects are completed according to specifications and schedules.

Essential Duties

• Perform advanced fitting, layout, and welding.
• Execute projects from drawings to final completion.
• Troubleshoot fabrication and welding issues.
• Train and mentor junior personnel.
• Ensure compliance with quality requirements.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of fabrication practices.
• Advanced blueprint and layout skills.
• Leadership and training abilities.
• Advanced welding certifications preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of welding codes and procedures.
• Proven ability to perform difficult welds consistently.

Experience

• 5+ years of structural welding and fitting experience.

Hours

• Monday – Thursday 6:00am – 4:30pm
• Overtime may be required.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 5+ years of welding and fitting experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
• Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
• Proficiency in FCAW (Flux Core), GMAW (MIG), and SMAW (Stick) welding processes.
• Ability to perform complex layouts, fit-ups, and assemblies with minimal supervision.
• Ability to pass applicable welding qualification tests.
• Read and interpret complex fabrication drawings and project specifications.
• Fit, align, and assemble components to required dimensions and tolerances.
• Perform structural and non-structural welding in accordance with company procedures and quality standards.
• Verify measurements, layouts, and fit-up before welding.
• Operate shop equipment including grinders, drills, torches, plasma cutters, overhead cranes, and other fabrication tools.
• Inspect completed work for accuracy, weld quality, and compliance with specifications.
• Troubleshoot fabrication issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain production schedules while ensuring quality workmanship.
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
• Assist with training and mentoring Welder/Fitter I and II employees.
• AWS welding certification.
• Experience with heavy plate fabrication and large assemblies.
• Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Knowledge of welding quality standards and inspection requirements.
• Previous lead or mentoring experience.
• Strong blueprint-reading and layout skills.
• Excellent welding and metal fabrication abilities.
• Strong understanding of welding symbols and fabrication tolerances.
• Ability to work independently and solve technical problems.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb throughout the workday.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing or fabrication environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and welding fumes.
• Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
