SUMMARY
The State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Maintenance, District 2, has full‑time vacancies for Highway Maintainer I and II positions located in Andover, Bristol, Canaan, Cornish, Enfield, Franklin, Lebanon, Lempster, Rumney, Sunapee, Wentworth. The starting pay ranges are $14.40–$18.46 per hour for Maintainer I and $15.63–$20.80 per hour for Maintainer II. Multiple positions/locations are available. Build Your Career. Build Your Community. 8th‑grade education. Valid driver’s license. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet minimum standards set by the Department of Transportation. Offer of employment conditional upon obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) medical card unless already employed by the State, if a CDL is required after hire. Must pass a pre‑employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with federal regulations and DOT requirements. Must be able to lift/carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. intermittently. Must have a telephone or acceptable means of communication and be available 24 hours per day.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – HIGHWAY MAINTAINER I

Experience in the operation of light motor‑driven equipment.AFTER‑HIRE REQUIREMENTS – HIGHWAY MAINTAINER II
Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL‑B) with appropriate endorsements within 1 year of hire.RESPONSIBILITIES – HIGHWAY MAINTAINER I
Operates trucks and services and performs field adjustments to vehicles, power tools, and mechanized equipment used in the maintenance and construction of highway facilities. Maintains hand and power tools to ensure readiness and proper operation; repairs and troubleshoots issues as necessary. Monitors the application of highway materials to ensure highway safety and efficiency of use. Performs traffic‑control operations, including flagging, erecting traffic‑control signs, and placing traffic‑control devices on roadways and construction sites to ensure work‑zone safety. Performs routine highway maintenance activities under adverse conditions with exposure to high‑speed traffic, hazardous materials, inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and disaster situations to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Traverses varying terrain and performs tasks that involve heavy physical labor such as drainage construction, building and equipment maintenance/repair; lifts/carries materials weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly. Responds immediately to winter maintenance and other traffic‑emergency activities as needed on a 24‑hour per day basis, throughout the entire year. Performs and oversees work in full conformance with all risk‑management, safety and environmental standards, regulations, and administrative orders.RESPONSIBILITIES – HIGHWAY MAINTAINER II
Operates 2‑axle commercial trucks, tractors with loaders and backhoes, and related highway equipment to provide all‑season safe conditions on assigned highways. Maintains and performs limited repair of highway equipment in accordance with Department policies and industry standards. Performs routine highway and roads maintenance activities under adverse conditions with exposure to high‑speed traffic, hazardous materials, inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and disaster situations to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Traverses varying terrain and performs tasks that involve heavy physical labor such as drainage construction, building and equipment maintenance/repair; lifts/carries materials weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly. Observes winter‑storm road conditions, independently determines appropriate action for plowing and spreading of abrasives and chemicals based on training and policy. Erects proper traffic‑control signs and devises to protect a work zone and adequately warn the traveling public of any road or safety concerns; directs traffic as necessary. Supervises small work crews performing routine highway and other facility maintenance functions; provides on‑the‑job training to entry‑level crew members in areas of maintenance, work methods, safety and environmental practices while performing similar work; reports any observed safety and/or environmental hazards and violations to supervisory personnel. Responds immediately to winter maintenance and other traffic‑emergency activities as needed on a 24‑hour per day basis throughout the entire year. Performs and oversees work in full conformance with all risk‑management, safety and environmental standards, regulations, and administrative orders.DISCLAIMER
