Mental Health Therapist

Overview STARS mission is to help young people pursue their unlimited potential by providing hope, health, and connection. STARS has served some of our most disenfranchised populations by providing school‑based prevention and intervention services, as well as intensive outpatient treatment services for adolescents with substance use and co‑occurring disorders. Position STARS Mental Health Therapist – Provide school‑based individual therapy and related clinical services for students in assigned schools. Responsibilities Provide weekly individual therapy for a caseload of students referred to services for a range of presenting issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma‑related symptoms, self‑injurious behaviors, family transitions, grief and loss, oppositional or defiant behaviors, challenges with focus or task in classroom, emotion regulation, communication skills, social/emotional skills, conflicts with peers, teachers, or family members. Provide case management and follow‑up services with students, parents, school personnel, and community professionals, including appropriate referrals as needed. Collaborate closely with school counselors and/or administrators to identify referrals to the program. Meet with parents/guardians for orientation and intake meetings to review and sign consents and initiate services. Maintain ongoing contact with parents/guardians regarding progress toward treatment goals and any significant developments. Complete all required clinical paperwork according to deadlines (assessments, interpretive summaries, treatment plans, safety plans, progress notes, and other required documents) and maintain clinical files. Collaborate with teachers and offer strategies for supporting student progress toward treatment goals in classrooms. Meet weekly with the Clinical Supervisor or Director of Clinical Services to review cases and any related issues. Engage in services via telehealth in cases where in‑person meetings and interventions are not possible. Collaborate with STARS Counselor and school counseling departments to develop and deliver trainings/presentations as needed on topics related to mental health and well‑being. Qualifications Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field. Licensure as LPC‑MHSP, LCSW, or LMFT strongly preferred.
