Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice - Extension Community & Economic Development Specialist

Overview Primary purpose of the position is Community and Economic Development (CED). The role provides educational leadership in the development, management, implementation, and evaluation of research-based, integrative statewide Extension programs that meet the needs of limited-resource and socially disadvantaged audiences. It delivers training and educational support materials for field staff and their clientele to advance community growth, economic resilience, and well-being. The position aligns with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Program’s mission and objectives, and focuses on growing grassroots leaders, risk management and disaster preparedness planning, and other community-based issues related to economic development. This is a non-tenured track faculty (NTTF), twelve-month position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice - Extension CED Specialist, housed in the Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics, and AgriScience Education. As NTTF faculty, the position can be released up to 25% of time and effort once per year to teach for-credit academic coursework. Responsibilities Responsibilities include providing leadership for statewide Extension programs in community and economic development, delivering educational materials and training to field staff and clients, and supporting community capacity building. The position supports risk management and disaster preparedness planning and addresses local challenges related to economic development. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Ph.D. in rural sociology, community resource development, urban and regional planning, economics, extension education, or a closely related field. Three or more years of experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation. In-depth knowledge of state and national trends and data supporting Extension program development for rural and urban underserved communities. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education: Five or more years of professional experience in Cooperative Extension program development (in addition to the Ph.D.). Ability to interact with and gain support from constituencies outside the university (business, industry, government agencies, foundations). Computer literacy (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Office). Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and think critically to solve problems. Experience planning, implementing, marketing, and evaluating educational programs for urban and rural underserved communities. Experience working in community-based non-formal education settings. Experience working with community-based volunteers or organizations. Work Arrangement Is this position eligible for remote or hybrid work?
