Sr. System Administrator

Job Summary This system engineering position involves designing, implementing, and supporting back‑end server‑based application infrastructure to support Health System operations. This senior technical role requires advanced expertise in system engineering and administration, specifically with server‑based technologies running on both physical and virtual machines. These systems operate within a large, complex environment spanning across multiple datacenter and cloud platforms. The incumbent will serve as a subject‑matter expert with responsibilities including, but not limited to, the management of different server operating systems, virtualization technology, and the management of cloud‑based resources. This incumbent shall possess the ability to interpret and translate business and technical requirements at both strategic and tactical levels to support the deployment of servers, configuration of operating systems, deploying security patches, and installation of software within a rapidly growing, mission‑critical, and increasingly complex environment. The incumbent must demonstrate advanced expertise in other computing domains, including virtualization, identity and access management, and server operations within a clinical and non‑clinical environment. Furthermore, the incumbent shall provide recommendations concerning security, vulnerabilities issues, and workflows that will help improve operational efficiency, system reliability, risk mitigation, and reduce total cost of ownership throughout the system lifecycle. Apply By Date: 7/27/2026 by 11:59pm Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Minimum of 10 years of experience in Information Technology. Extensive experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex enterprise application solutions and systems. Knowledge and experience in managing and supporting HP and VMware technologies. Experience deploying, managing, and optimizing resources in the cloud (Azure and/or AWS). Extensive experience serving as a Windows, Unix, or Linux systems engineer/administrator in large‑scale enterprise environments. Strong experience managing highly available and complex clustered server environments. Strong knowledge of high‑availability architectures, disaster recovery strategies, business continuity planning, and load‑balancing technologies. Experience designing, implementing, and supporting Directory Services, File Services, and Web Services in enterprise environments. Strong experience in developing, maintaining, and automating administrative tasks through scripting technologies such as PowerShell, PowerCLI, and Shell scripting. Expertise in developing and implementing security hardening standards, system baselines, and infrastructure security best practices. Strong knowledge of high‑availability architectures, disaster recovery strategies, business continuity planning, and load‑balancing technologies. Experience architecting complex application and infrastructure solutions leveraging Windows, Unix, Linux, IBM, and x86‑based platforms. Comprehensive knowledge and experience with operating systems, storage platforms, file systems, network technology, patch management, and other related enterprise server administration. Extensive experience with Server technologies including Windows Server and VMWare. Extensive experience with engineering and implementing AD security standards. Expert knowledge in server operation, server management, and patch management. Understanding of the OSI model. Excellent oral and written communication, excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work in a self‑directed fashion, interacting effectively with senior UCDH staff, faculty, and technical personnel. Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issue effectively. Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure of deadlines and critical circumstances. Always displays a courteous and professional attitude. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working in Healthcare IT. Experience with Ansible Automation and RedHat Satellite. Experience administering and supporting IBM platforms and related technologies. Experience with Okta, BeyondTrust, or similar identity platform. Experience with managing M365, Azure and AWS services. Experience with HPE hardware including chassis, blade, rack mount servers and other HPE components. Experience with project management practice and methodologies.
