Manager, Software Engineer

AbbVie seeks a Manager, Software Engineer to lead a small team building full-stack web applications and services using React, TypeScript, Python, Node.js, and GraphQL. The role combines hands-on technical development with team leadership, mentoring, and delivery of production-grade solutions for scientific and business problems.
Responsibilities
- Conceive, design, and implement full-stack software solutions spanning React, Python, Node.js, and GraphQL across multiple services
- Lead a team of 2–3 direct reports and direct contract engineers; conduct performance reviews and support career development
- Maintain CI/CD pipeline ownership and deploy applications using Docker and Kubernetes orchestration
- Design and build custom integrations between third-party and internal systems with secure data exchange
- Mentor team members on technical practices, code quality, and problem-solving; serve as technical lead for project design decisions
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 6 years' experience, or Master's with 5 years', or PhD with 0 years'
- Proven production experience with Python, React, and TypeScript across full-stack applications
- Hands-on expertise designing, implementing, and consuming GraphQL APIs
- Practical experience building custom system integrations and containerization with Docker
- Strong TypeScript proficiency including type-driven API design and client-service codegen workflows
- Prior experience managing or leading a small engineering team
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills
