Commercial Credit Manager

Job Summary

The Commercial Credit Manager is responsible for managing and leading the commercial credit underwriting and portfolio review processes to ensure sound credit decisions and effective risk management. This role collaborates closely with commercial lending and servicing teams to assess loan requests, evaluate borrower creditworthiness, and monitor portfolio performance. As a subject matter expert in commercial and commercial real estate (CRE) credit, the Commercial Credit Manager supports the development and training of underwriters, ensures compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory requirements, and contributes to the overall effectiveness and risk management of the commercial lending function.

Responsibilities

· Oversee the end-to-end commercial credit underwriting process, ensuring timely, consistent, and accurate evaluation of new and renewed loan requests.

· Review and validate borrower financial statements, collateral documentation, cash flow analyses, and risk ratings.

· Prepare and review comprehensive credit memoranda for presentation to loan committees, clearly outlining risks, mitigants, and recommendations.

· Conduct regular portfolio reviews and stress testing to assess ongoing credit quality, identify emerging risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.

Support the management of complex credit relationships, including participation loans and syndications, ensuring structures meet risk and return objectives.

· Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to underwriters and lending officers to enhance credit skills, consistency, and professional growth.

· Participate actively in loan committee meetings, presenting credit analyses and contributing expertise on credit structure and risk assessment.

· Assist in the review, update, and continuous improvement of internal credit policies and procedures to maintain alignment with regulatory changes and industry best practices.

· Monitor and analyze market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory developments impacting the commercial real estate loan portfolio and advise leadership on necessary adjustments.

· Foster a collaborative environment across underwriting, lending, servicing, risk management, and executive leadership teams to ensure seamless portfolio management and high-quality client service.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, loan review, loan documentation, portfolio management, or related experience.

· Advanced knowledge of commercial lending practices, CRE underwriting, financial statement analysis, and risk assessment methodologies.

Experience with participation loans and complex credit structures is preferred.

· In-depth understanding of relevant regulations, banking/credit union regulatory guidelines, and internal credit policies.

· Superior analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex credit concepts to diverse audiences and present to stakeholders.

· Proven ability to collaborate effectively across functions and at various organizational levels.

· Proficiency in credit analysis software and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
