Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position – you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed Current – full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State – Territory – or Commonwealth of the United States – or in the District of Columbia Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training – approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) The Radiologist will diagnose patient disorders/diseases using X‑rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance, and radioactive materials Duties include but not limited to: obtains patients' histories from electronic records, patient interviews, dictated reports, and by communicating with referring clinicians Prepares comprehensive interpretive reports of findings Performs and interprets the outcomes of diagnostic imaging procedures including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), nuclear cardiology treadmill studies, mammography, and ultrasound Reviews and transmits images and information using picture archiving and communication systems Communicates examination results and diagnostic information to referring physicians, patients, and families Evaluates medical information to determine patients' risk factors (such as allergies to contrast agents) and to make decisions regarding the appropriateness of procedures Provides counseling to radiologic patients to explain the processes, risks, benefits, and alternative treatments Confers with medical professionals regarding image‑based diagnoses Coordinates radiological services with other medical activities Documents performance, interpretation, and outcomes of procedures performed Establishes and enforces standards for protection of patients and staff Develops and monitors procedures to ensure adequate quality control of images Administers radiopaque substances by injection, orally, and as enemas to render internal structures and organs visible on X‑ray films and fluoroscopic screens Recognizes and treats complications during and after procedures including blood pressure problems, pain, oversedation, and bleeding Participates in continuing education activities to maintain and develop expertise Participates in quality improvement activities including discussions of areas where risk of error is high Implements protocols in areas such as drugs, resuscitation, emergencies, power failures, and infection control Work Schedule: Monday‑Friday – 8:00 am–4:30 pm; Additional Requirement: American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification or equivalent #J-18808-Ljbffr U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
