Fleet Innovation and Transformation Lead Systems Engineer

Job DescriptionWho will you be working with?Our Freight Services Division provides locomotive maintenance services to our customers, the country’s largest freight railroads, helping them keep their locomotives running at optimal levels. The mission of the Fleet Innovation & Transformation team is to accelerate fleet transformation by consistently providing compelling solutions and innovative technologies that improve reliability, sustainability, and performance.How will you make a difference? The Lead Systems Engineer leads locomotive modernization and NPI projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business as a recognized expert in a specialized field. In this role you will be responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, and contribute to the overall business strategy. The Lead Systems Engineer’s focus is to interpret and communicate system level customer product requirements to supporting subsystems and validate that they are met through the design review process and validation testing. In this role you will lead projects from conception to customer delivery by being the primary technical interface between the product teams, engineering design, and manufacturing implementation.What do we want to know about you?Qualifications/ Requirements:Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer ScienceAt least 3 years of system design experienceDesired Characteristics:Master’s degree in EngineeringStrong electrical/mechanical design and analytical backgroundFamiliarity with manufacturing processesAbility to drive projects to completionStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsAbility to influence all organizations within the businessAbility to interface effectively with all levels of the organization, and external customersNorth America and International legacy locomotive expertiseWhat will your typical day look like? Ability to excel in a lean mission-based team environment though optimized designs, validation scope, and customer focused resultsProvide technical leadership for a team of engineers for all product design aspects of the assigned NPI and/or locomotive modernization projectsDeliver strong and concise requirements and product definition to the supporting engineering teamsProvide analytical evaluation of overall system design with focus on design rigor and practical improvementsKnowledge of engineering processes and tools used to create system level documentation (eDOT, QSW, eDR/Tollgate, DOORS, PLM, Reliance)Organizing, performing, and summarizing results from system level validation plans on productsLegacy locomotive design and control system optimization required for modernization opportunitiesSupport and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as commercial, proposals, manufacturing, sourcing, services, reliability, global engineering, and systems engineeringSupport service programs, fulfillment, and New Product Introduction (NPI)Communicate progress to all levels of the organizationEngineering factory support with focus on build, testing, troubleshooting and validation supportMentor and develop less experienced personnelAdditional InformationOur job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $91000-129800 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
