Summary of Job Duties:

The MLS Student Employee – Blood Bank supports the Blood Bank/Transfusion Services laboratory while gaining hands-on experience in clinical laboratory science. Under the supervision of qualified laboratory staff, the student assists with routine blood bank activities, specimen processing, testing, documentation, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

• HS Diploma/GED
• Must be a current student in an Medical Laboratory Science program

Job Requirements:

• Provide direct patient care by supplying the patient with appropriate blood components
• Issue blood and blood components to the floors
• Understand the importance of massive trauma and to issue blood and blood components as set forth in the Massive Transfusion Protocol
• Communicate effectively with the blood bank customers including physicians, nurses, and other UAMS Staff members
• Receive samples and to ensure all samples are appropriately labeled and collected properly for the Blood Bank
• Perform other duties a sneeded
