Phlebotomist Sr-Boerne, Tx

Overview Texas Oncology is hiring a Phlebotomist to support our Boerne, TX location. The position is full‑time with hours 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. What does the Phlebotomist do? Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and processing specimens from patients. Duties include following quality assurance and safety policies, assisting with patient flow, properly identifying patients, drawing blood samples, maintaining collection areas, performing record‑keeping, and adhering to standard operating procedures. Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy and collect specimens as ordered. Ensure pre‑authorizations and consents (ABN) are completed before collecting limited coverage tests. Maintain accurate documentation per the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs and equipment records. Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and verify viability before use. Send specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in-house. Process incoming orders and in‑house reports. Update and file daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs. Properly identify and band patients for blood product transfusion; process labeled specimens per local bloodbank policy. Operate designated laboratory equipment under direction. Use equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently; maintain equipment and work area. Perform waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines; record lot numbers for all controls, calibrators, and reagents. Comply with regulatory agency standards and OSHA laws; follow universal precaution procedures. Properly dispose of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean working environment and restock phlebotomy and lab area as needed. Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience: Level1 (Entry Level) Position requires no experience. High school diploma or equivalent. Licensure from an accredited school of phlebotomy recommended. Current state licensure, if applicable. Level2 (Requires Level1 requirements +) Position requires three years of experience. LevelSr (Requires Level1 and 2 requirements +) Position requires five or more years of experience. Physical Demands Full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, sitting/standing for long periods, use of hands and arms to hold or carry items, occasional lifting up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision, color perception, hearing within normal range, and legible handwriting. Work Environment Regular exposure to direct contact with patients, potential exposure to blood/body fluids, chemotherapeutic agents or transmissible infections, corrosive chemicals, and needles. Exposure to glassware and sharp objects, and working in a clinical laboratory setting.
