Transportation Manager

As the company continues to grow, they are seeking a Transportation General Manager to lead and optimize their transportation operations. The Transportation General Manager will oversee all daily transportation operations for a fleet of 15 to 20 drivers while leading a team that includes dispatchers and transportation support personnel. This is a highly visible, hands‑on leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost‑effective transportation services that support both internal operations and customer expectations. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on operational performance, service quality, and future growth initiatives Key Responsibilities: Oversee daily transportation operations for a fleet of 15 to 20 drivers. Lead and develop dispatch and transportation support teams to ensure efficient load planning, routing, and scheduling. Monitor on‑time performance, service levels, and delivery accuracy. Optimize routes, fleet utilization, and resource allocation to improve efficiency and control costs. Manage and develop transportation personnel through coaching, performance management, and goal setting. Partner with leadership and HR to support recruiting, staffing, and retention efforts. Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, IFTA, and all applicable transportation regulations. Work closely with the Compliance Officer to maintain regulatory compliance and support audits and reporting requirements. Investigate accidents, incidents, and safety violations while implementing corrective and preventative actions. Maintain and improve transportation policies, orientation programs, and safety training initiatives. Oversee fleet maintenance scheduling, equipment readiness, and lifecycle management to minimize downtime. Monitor fuel consumption, fleet performance, and utilization metrics. Serve as the primary liaison between transportation operations and manufacturing teams to align service capabilities with business needs. Respond to operational disruptions, customer concerns, and service challenges while implementing effective solutions. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, brokers, vendors, and service providers. Manage transportation budgets, including labor, fuel, maintenance, and vendor expenses. Analyze key performance indicators including cost per mile, driver productivity, safety performance, and on‑time delivery metrics. Monitor freight market conditions and support freight rate reviews and adjustments as needed. What They Are Looking For Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business Management, Engineering, or a related field. 3 to 7+ years of transportation management experience in a manufacturing, logistics, distribution, or trucking environment. Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA compliance requirements, and IFTA reporting. Experience managing drivers, dispatch operations, and transportation support teams. Experience working with Transportation Management Systems (TMS). Familiarity with both brokerage and asset‑based trucking operations. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to make data‑driven decisions. Excellent leadership, communication, and team‑building abilities.
