Mechanical Engineer

Basic Qualifications Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field. Also requires 2+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree and 6 months of job-related experience. Agile experience preferred,CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:Performs design and development in such areas as mechanical, thermal, thermodynamic, or heat transferLeads development of strategic tasks or small to mid-size projects by applying engineering and organizational knowledge and expertise to achieve technical goalsProvides technical input to Project or Engineering Management in linking project-related strategy to achieve business goalsMonitors the project from initiation through delivery including planning and directing schedules and monitoring budget/spendingUnderstands and interprets the technical, organizational and process aspects of the task assigned and can relate them to the technical needs of the overall project or organizationPlans and executes small to mid-size projects or task elements within larger projects, organizations, or for groups of projectsResponsible for the completion of assigned engineering tasks or mid-size projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelinesDirects, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering tasks or small projects within area of assigned responsibilityActively uncovers technical and organizational risks and ensures they are included in risk mitigation plansParticipates in development of program strategies and teaming strategies as they relate to the assigned projectParticipates in the development of executable project plans on proposalMentors lower labor grades in mechanical principles and project performanceCreative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills• Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions• Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors• Carries out other tasks, not listed, assigned by supervisor• Travel may be required• Security clearance may be requiredKnowledge Skills and Abilities:Proficient and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the positionGrasps and applies new information quicklyProficient ability to handle more complex assignmentsMust be proficient with solid modeling CAD tools (Creo) to create mechanical models and accompanying drawingsShows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little directionProficient knowledge with technical standards, manufacturing/fabrication methods, government/industry standardsPrefer proficient knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (ANSYS)Demonstrates proficiency in writing technical papers and proposalsDemonstrates history of leading an engineering project and teamKnowledge in mechanical testing such as pyroshock, vibration and thermal vacuum testingWhat sets you apart:Proficiency with modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and drawingsStrong knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods, as well as technical, government, and industry standardsCreative thinker capable of leading a team in the preparation of project design, testing, and prototype fabricationTeam player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team successCommitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and othersIdentifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovationOur Commitment to You:An exciting career path with opportunities for continuous learning and development.
