All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.***ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION:** The mission of Mid-State Health Center is to provide sound primary care to the community, accessible to all regardless of their ability to pay.GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the CLIA Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager, and/or Clinical Director, provides laboratory services, includes functioning in the laboratory in accordance with clinic, CLIA/Government and outside reference laboratory standards and requirements. Performs Customer Service (clerical/phones/tasks) Laboratory duties. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for drawing and collecting quality blood and other lab specimens from patients and preparing and processing specimens for medical testing. Technician may require travel to alternate offices as needed. The technician must create an atmosphere of trust and confidence while drawing blood in a skillful, safe, and accurate manner. Technicians must also clean and sterilize equipment, following strict safety precautions.SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Clinical Director and/or Laboratory Coordinator Lead.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and SCOPE OF PRACTICE:1. Collect specimens directly from patient.2. Prepare specimens, including blood, urine, tissue, and/or other bodily fluids for send out to Quest and/or processing at Bristol Moderate Complex Laboratory.3. Perform hands-on tasks in drawing blood, including preparing and sterilizing the area, applying pressure, and dressing when complete.4. Assess & monitor patient(s) for adverse reactions. Contact NURSING immediately if syncopal episode occurs.5. Analyze specimen prior to sending to Quest/Bristol. (hemolysis, lipemic, etc.)6. Record tested data as necessary.7. Enter information into medical databases.8. Work under the supervision of and report to the Clinical Director/Laboratory Manager.9. Wear and ensure proper fit of wearable safety gear (eye protection, clothing, gloves, mask etc.)10. Adhere to medical safety protocol and execute proper hazardous waste disposal.11. Maintains a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedure.12. Sterilize laboratory equipment as necessary (daily, monthly, weekly, yearly basis).13. Perform quality control (QC) and use point of care analyzers as needed.14. Perform routine specimen procedures such as obtaining specimens.15. Prepare specimens according to laboratory test requirements.16. Must be able to problem solve, using appropriate resources for information gathering.17. Maintains simple laboratory records and inventory for supplies.18. Orders supplies for laboratory use.19. Other duties as assignedThe job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the job position.EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent. Strong background in Biology or Chemistry preferred. EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in phlebotomy preferred. (2-3 years minimum, although not necessary). LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS: NoneKNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:1. Knowledge of current medical office practices and protocols.2. Knowledge of infection control, safety, and confidentiality practices.3. Ability to respond to ever changing environment reacts calmly and competently in emergency situations.11. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.12. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, in writing, and by phone.13. Ability to comply with established policies and procedures.14. Ability to recognize deviations from normal with respect to vital signs and patient overall presentation and reports appropriately.The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by employees to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.**Physical Demands:*** Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching during specimen collection and testing procedures.* Requires manual dexterity and fine motor coordination for handling specimens, operating laboratory instruments, and performing precise measurements.* Occasional lifting or moving of equipment, reagent containers, or specimen boxes (typically up to 25–30 lbs but could be up to 50 lbs.).* Visual acuity and color vision required for accurate test readings, microscope use, and result interpretation.* Periods of repetitive motion such as pipetting, labeling, and data entry.* May involve extended periods of standing at laboratory benches or sitting at a computer workstation.**Mental Demands:*** Requires attention to detail and the ability to perform repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy.* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills needed to identify testing irregularities or specimen issues.* Must maintain concentration while managing multiple tests and priorities in a time-sensitive environment.* Requires emotional stability and professionalism when working under pressure or handling biohazardous materials.* Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with clinical staff and providers.* High ethical standards and discretion required for handling confidential patient information and results.**Environmental Conditions:*** Work performed primarily in a controlled laboratory environment within a clinic.* Frequent exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and chemical reagents.* Must use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, lab coats, masks, and eye protection.* Regular exposure to odors, biohazardous waste, and cleaning or sterilizing agents.* Work area may include automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, and other laboratory instruments generating moderate noise levels.* Work surfaces are well-lit and climate-controlled but may require standing for prolonged periods.**Working Conditions:*** Generally performed during regular business hours; however, some clinics may require early morning or extended shifts depending on testing schedules.* Works closely with nurses, medical assistants, and providers to ensure timely and accurate specimen processing and reporting.* Must comply with OSHA, CLIA, and infection control standards at all times.* May be required to participate in quality control, equipment calibration, and proficiency testing programs.* Occasional stress related to high workload, urgent test requests, or critical patient results. #J-18808-Ljbffr
