We’re hiring a Compliance Specialist to help review resident files and support compliance across our affordable housing portfolio throughout Minnesota.

This role is a good fit for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, patient, and comfortable working with people. You’ll work closely with our compliance team, property managers, and Site Managers to review files, identify needed corrections, answer questions, and help ensure program requirements are met.

Affordable housing compliance experience is preferred, but not required. If you have related experience and the right attention to detail, judgment, communication skills, and willingness to learn, we can teach the right candidate.

What You’ll Do

• Review applicant and resident files for compliance with affordable housing program requirements
• Review initial certifications, annual recertifications, interim certifications, and other resident file changes
• Verify household income, assets, deductions, eligibility, and supporting documentation
• Confirm applicable income and rent limits
• Identify missing, incomplete, or inconsistent documentation
• Communicate required corrections clearly and professionally to Site Managers and Property Managers
• Follow up on outstanding items and re-review files as needed
• Answer questions and provide guidance regarding tenant eligibility, certifications, verifications, and documentation requirements
• Track certification deadlines and help ensure files are completed on time
• Prepare and review compliance reports for assigned properties
• Assist with required submissions and reporting to housing agencies
• Help prepare for agency reviews, audits, management reviews, and inspections
• Assist with annual compliance reporting
• Provide training and support to Site Managers on compliance procedures and resident file requirements
• Periodically travel to properties throughout Minnesota for in-person training, file review, and staff support
• Stay current on changes to affordable housing regulations and program requirements

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, patient, and comfortable working with people at different levels of experience.

Compliance work often involves reviewing files, identifying corrections, following up on missing information, and helping staff understand program requirements. The right person for this role should be able to communicate corrections clearly and professionally while maintaining a supportive, solutions-focused approach.

We also value someone who enjoys teaching and working directly with staff. While much of the compliance work is completed from our Hopkins office, this position will periodically travel to properties throughout Minnesota to provide in-person training, file review, and support to Site Managers.

You should also be:

• Comfortable reviewing detailed documentation and spotting inconsistencies
• Able to manage multiple properties, deadlines, and priorities
• Strong in written and verbal communication
• Comfortable asking questions and following up when something is incomplete
• Able to work independently while also collaborating with a team
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and general computer systems
• Willing and able to travel periodically throughout Minnesota

Experience

Affordable housing compliance experience is preferred, particularly experience with programs such as HUD, USDA Rural Development, LIHTC/Section 42, HOME, or Minnesota Housing.

However, we are also open to candidates with transferable experience in areas such as:

• Property management or leasing
• Accounting or bookkeeping
• Banking, lending, or mortgage processing
• Insurance
• Human resources or payroll
• Legal or administrative support
• Government or regulatory work
• Auditing or quality assurance
• Other positions involving detailed documentation, verification, deadlines, or regulatory requirements

More important than already knowing affordable housing is the ability to learn regulations, pay close attention to details, communicate well, and follow through. We are willing to train the right candidate.

This position is primarily office-based. Some flexibility may be available once training is complete and the employee is consistently able to manage the responsibilities of the position independently.
