JOB SUMMARY
The Keep Douglasville Beautiful (KDB) Program Coordinator assists the KDB Manager in program development, planning, management, and implementation of programs and services which promote the beautification and environmental quality of the City of Douglasville to include recycling, clean-up efforts, beautification projects, public education, and public awareness campaigns.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Coordinates and assists with the development and implementation of public education, outreach, and marketing plans for Keep Douglasville Beautiful (KDB), supporting City-wide programs that promote beautification, environmental quality, recycling, clean-up efforts, and public awareness initiatives.
• Creates and manages production schedules for multi-media public information and environmental education campaigns to ensure timely and effective delivery of instructional and promotional materials.
• Designs and creates graphic information pieces such as calendars, brochures, posters, advertisements, and other print materials within established production deadlines.
• Writes engaging and informative content for press releases, advertising, instructional, and educational materials, meeting organizational standards for professional writing, style, and grammar.
• Develops, coordinates, and delivers environmental and educational workshops and presentations for civic groups, schools, volunteers, and the general public; identifies and schedules speakers; maintains presentation materials; and coordinates facilities, equipment, and resources as needed.
• Maintains KDB plantings, including the Butterfly Garden, Mill Village, downtown, and cemetery planters, performing watering, fertilizing, weeding, and seasonal refreshes; organizes and coordinates volunteer participation and Community Service workers when appropriate.
• Assists staff in planning and managing outreach efforts at special events, trade shows, and educational meetings, including the development and use of informational booths, displays, and related materials.
• Maintains current and accurate KDB website content, including text and graphic updates.
• Manages KDB’s social media presence to support public education, outreach, and community engagement efforts.
• Designs, orders, tracks, and maintains inventory levels of educational and promotional materials.
• Works collaboratively with the Executive Director to support the development, planning, and implementation of environmental education, beautification, and public awareness programs.
• Assists with writing and preparing grant applications, awards submissions, and supporting documentation related to KDB programs and initiatives.
• Represents KDB in professional organizations, community groups, and internal or external committees as assigned.
• Assists the Executive Director with budget development, tracking, and resource planning for marketing, outreach, and educational programs.
• Communicates effectively with diverse audiences and applies creative, current, and inclusive methods to reach populations affected by or interested in KDB programs.
• Demonstrates leadership, initiative, and creativity in managing individual projects and building partnerships with team members, City departments, external organizations, and community stakeholders to support integrated public education and marketing efforts.
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance and consistently meets established deadlines.
• Travels to City facilities, community meetings, and special events as required.
• Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Associate’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Management, or related field; two (2) years of experience in customer service, public speaking, or training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Experience planning and implementing beautification or public relations projects desired. Must be technically savvy, especially with social networking, design and database software.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, local ordinances, and departmental and city policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of technology to include but not limited to social networking, design and database software.
• Ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and or analyze data.
• Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
• Ability to motivate and direct volunteers.
• Ability to utilize a wide variety of references and descriptive data and information.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
• Ability to use of own vehicle or City vehicle.
• Ability to use provided computer and associated software including Microsoft Office, Internet, calculator, printer, fax machine, telephone, two-way radio, and copier.
• Ability to effectively deal with diverse people and situations.
• Ability to work some nights or weekends for special events and speaking engagements.
• Ability to display professional appearance as indicated by the various situations or events that include interaction with the public and with other city departments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking, along with occasional bending, reaching, and lifting or carrying light materials. Duties involve frequent use of hands and fingers for handling documents and operating office equipment. The position requires adequate visual, auditory, and verbal acuity to communicate effectively, review information, and perform assigned duties, including lifting or moving materials or equipment as required by the duties of the position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed in a combination of indoor office settings and outdoor environments, including parks, streetscapes, gardens, schools, and event locations. Outdoor work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven surfaces, and seasonal elements while supporting beautification, planting, and community events. The work environment is generally safe and secure but may periodically involve unplanned demands, schedule changes, public interaction, and event-driven deadlines requiring flexibility and responsiveness.
