Summary This position is located within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) - Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS) - at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FHCC) - Environmental Management Service. This position functions as a Housekeeping Aid/Environmental Service Technician Leader. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element - which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to be a Team Leader for housekeeping activities in the Housekeeping section of EMS - FHCC. Provides team leadership and guidance to WG-3566-02 Housekeeping Aids (Environmental Service Technicians) as assigned to the incumbent's area of responsibility in accomplishing sanitation duties in administrative - patient care and public areas. Relays the instructions received from supervisors and gets work started. Works along with other employees and guides the pace - assigning team members to specific tasks to accomplish the objectives. Demonstrates proper work methods by training inexperienced personnel in procedures. Provides needed information for decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work. Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives (i.e. technical orders). Ensures that work is fairly distributed and all personnel are constantly productive. Checks work while in progress and when finished to ensure that supervisory instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines are met. Induces and directs other employees to follow instructions received from supervisors and to meet deadlines. Ensures that safety - housekeeping and other medical center rules are followed. Reports to supervisors on status and progress of work - causes of work delays and personnel problems and provides input for performance appraisals and ratings. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the position require some heavy lifting (equipment and materials) - movement of furniture is required along with the stamina to perform physical labor. Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting and arduous physical effort is required in the performance of the manual tasks described such as washing walls above five feet and operating powered equipment over extended periods of time. Incumbent may routinely move and/or lift objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds and push linen carts in excess of 400 pounds. He/she will be required to climb stepper ladders. Equipment utilized to accomplish duties and tasks require special care while operation to avoid serious injury. Work Conditions: Incumbent working conditions such as ventilation and environment are satisfactory. His/her primary duties are normally accomplished indoors in a well-lighted and climate controlled atmosphere (with some exposure to outside). He/she may occasionally encounter temperature extremes - dirty - dusty - drafty - and noisy working conditions. Incumbent is exposed to communicable pathogens - skin irritations - mechanical and/or electrical hazards. When performing cleaning tasks - moderate effort is expended. Must have a thorough knowledge of specialized cleaning and sanitation techniques - materials and equipment in order to accomplish the duties assigned this position.
