Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Make a meaningful impact as an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter in a dynamic high school setting supporting a 9th-grade student attending a behavioral classroom near Richmond, TX. This contract assignment runs from August 12, 2026, through May 27, 2027. You’ll facilitate seamless communication during instructional times, working closely with dedicated educators and providing vital language access for a student integrating after returning from a Residential Day School Program.

What We’re Seeking:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and thorough understanding of interpreting techniques
• Valid certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
• Experience supporting students with hearing devices, such as Cochlear implants, hearing aids, or ALD devices, is highly desirable
• Background in educational settings, preferably with high school students or behavioral classrooms
• Sensitivity to the needs of students making adjustments in new learning environments
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with students, teachers, and support staff

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide ASL interpretation for a 9th-grade student throughout the school day (excluding lunch, arrival, and dismissal)
• Interpret verbal communication and classroom instruction, ensuring full access to educational content and participation
• Adapt interpreting strategies to support a student who identifies as hearing but requires language facilitation
• Liaise with classroom and support staff to foster an inclusive, engaging learning environment
• Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and accurate records, as required
